Nathaniel's smile wavered as Zara's face flickered through his mind. The memory of her pushing him away the day before still lingered. His pride had been wounded. He had kept his distance since then, unsure of how to approach her again or what to even say.
But Zane's invitation felt like a welcoming chance to smooth over the silence between them. Spending time together didn't sound so bad.
"Okay. I'll come with you."
"Yah!" Zane cheered excitedly. "We'll have fun together."
A smile still rested on his lips as he ended the call. For the first time in days, a flicker of peace settled in his chest.
He thought of picking her up for dinner, asking if she needed anything for the amusement park trip.
