As expected, not long after Yugen and Judai left, Hayato and Sho contacted the academy.
Students disappearing from the old dormitories was naturally a top priority, so the matter was reported to the academy's board of directors. Kaiba Corporation sent a relevant team to investigate, and coincidentally, Mokuba heard about it and came along.
Yugen simply recounted his experiences and knowledge from visiting the spirit dimension, and after making a record, he chatted with Mokuba.
"So that's how it is. That Evil God from the new Doma has simultaneously infiltrated many spirit dimensions," Mokuba mused. "And you even encountered one of the new Three Swordsmen?
It's unbelievable that you actually won. I heard that none of the Three Swordsmen are weak."
"Lucky, lucky," Yugen said with a look of lingering fear. "But the actual situation at the time was extremely dangerous and difficult. Judai and I fought two against one and suffered a lot before finally managing to win with great difficulty."
He hadn't even finished speaking this time when Mokuba interrupted his dramatic recounting.
"Mmm, mmm, it's still best to strengthen the deck as much as possible. You still need rare cards, right?"
Yugen smiled.
As expected, it's always easier to deal with familiar people. Mokuba already understood his intentions.
"I figured you might say that before I even came," Mokuba chuckled. "Coincidentally, I heard that the research team on the Black Luster Soldier side has made progress recently, thanks to the information you provided earlier. I reckon it won't be long before the research team contacts you.
When that happens, just take a trip to headquarters, and I'll see if there's anything we can give you to use."
Yugen's eyes lit up.
Kaiba Corporation headquarters, now that's something!
He could take a look and see if there were any good things there.
Yugen had actually been listing out some ideas for different deck archetypes these days. He would sometimes consider the potential weaknesses of his current deck when facing different situations. Then, to compensate for those weaknesses against specific opponents, he would naturally start coming up with various new strategies and deck structures.
Sometimes, it would be based on newly acquired cards that he would derive new strategies, and then use a certain card as the core to start trying to establish a new structure. Just like the [Abyss Control] deck he had just recently completed.
This deck archetype could be considered to have all its parts currently contributing relatively well, but he still had many ideas that lacked key components, and the list of missing cards was already quite long.
Especially after obtaining the "Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys" this time, he felt even more that his main deck could be further upgraded.
Coincidentally, it was the deck that had once been invincible in the world championships: [Mutation Chaos Phoenix God].
Just from the name, you could see the three core parts of this deck archetype: Metamorphosis, Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning, and Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys.
Big Envoy went without saying; it was an absolute main force for transitions, the strongest monster in the environment. Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys with its 2400 attack power was also considered quite strong at the time. At the same time, it also had resurrection resistance to various mainstream field-clearing spells and traps, and also came with a "Heavy Storm"-like spell and trap field-clearing effect, which was also extremely powerful.
Metamorphosis could transform the monsters on his field into Fusion Monsters based on different situations, easily summoning various Fusion big monsters to deal with all kinds of circumstances. It could be said that whether it was offense or defense, it displayed extremely outstanding peak performance as a top-tier deck.
But he still lacked quite a few things in the components for this deck's concept.
For example, Fusion Monsters. He didn't know if it was because GX was also known as the "Fusion Era," but he quickly discovered that Fusion Monsters in this era were especially rare. Even the Fusion vanilla monsters that he didn't even look at were priced in a way that made people frown, and overall, they were still relatively scarce.
The Fusion Monsters that were relatively easy to buy right now were not ones he particularly cared for, and even if he did get them, he felt that their prices were ridiculously high. And most of the Fusion Monsters he wanted to use were not readily available for purchase.
Mokuba's current offer was a good opportunity; Kaiba Corporation headquarters should have plenty of these things. It seemed like another round of rapid improvement was coming.
Kaiba Corporation's professional personnel had completely surrounded that room in the old dormitory. People were constantly going in and out with equipment to investigate. Yugen chatted idly with Mokuba outside, also asking about the President's recent situation, especially the progress of the investigation into the new Doma.
But Mokuba simply shook his head at this point.
"Progress can't be said to be nonexistent. We've taken down a lot of strongholds and uprooted many Shadow Duelist forces that were in league with them. I think it has had some impact on their organizational operations, but it's hard to say if we've struck at their core."
Mokuba sighed.
"The main issue is that we realized it a bit late. Dartz managed to establish the old Doma's influence all over the world back then. Whether it was the business world or the political world, he had infiltrated them to the bone.
Later, even though Brother and Yugi teamed up to defeat Dartz, such a large organization couldn't just disappear. We think the current new Doma is probably rebuilding from the remnants of that organization, which is why it's so huge and not so easy to deal with."
After a pause, Mokuba frowned again.
"Besides, that hacker incident has also been a bit of a distraction for us recently."
Yugen asked, "You mean that hacker who hacked into Kaiba Land's duel arena? Did you find out who it was?"
"It's because we haven't found him that it's such a headache. It's really strange, how could such a powerful hacker suddenly appear in the world? We haven't found a single trace of him so far."
Mokuba put his hands in his pockets, looking a bit troubled at this point.
"And to make matters worse, he chose the critical juncture during the development of the 'Link System'."
"'Link System'?" Yugen asked.
He hadn't seen this term in the academy or online yet. This was the first time he had heard of it.
"Ah, right, this hasn't been made public yet. It's a trade secret, so I won't tell you too much for now," Mokuba chuckled. "But you should be able to see it next time you come to headquarters. Just consider it a surprise to look forward to."
Just as they were talking, an expert quickly stepped forward to report.
"Preliminary on-site analysis has been completed. Subsequent data processing will have to wait until we return to headquarters," the person reported. "However, we estimate that the main reason is likely something that happened in this old dormitory many years ago, leading to the space here being relatively unstable.
Therefore, if supernatural forces similar to spirits approach, there's a certain probability of causing dimensional rifts to appear. But that should be a rare phenomenon; all the recorded data has now returned to normal."
Something that happened in the old dormitory many years ago.
Yugen combined this with the original story and thought for a moment. It seemed to refer to the massive plot hole that spanned the entire GX main storyline: the Darkness incident.
Back then, a group of students looking for death researched dark forces here and made contact with the final antagonist of GX, Darkness. All the related students later disappeared here, and this abandoned dormitory thus became a weak point in dimensions.
"I see."
Mokuba looked at Yugen.
"It's good that you're all alright. Today's investigation should probably end here. Go back and rest first. See you in a few days."
Yugen also let out a long yawn. "Okay, I should go back and catch up on sleep too. Bye."
Being tormented by the accidental trip to another dimension until now, such a journey had left him extremely sleepy. Fortunately, tomorrow was the weekend, and he planned to go back and at least sleep in for the morning.
Outside the door, the teachers and students who had been watching from afar saw the people involved coming out of the dormitory and couldn't help but point and whisper.
"Tsk ~ he actually chatted so happily with that Kaiba Mokuba. What's the background of this student?"
"I heard someone say, something about him being the man that the legendary Kaiba Seto has taken a fancy to..."
"Seriously?"
