"You need to pick a class representative."
Aizawa had a shit eating grin on his face, relishing the opportunity to mess with the class.
There was a quick sigh of relief, but chaos flooded the room immediately after.
Voices overlapped, rising over each other in a wave of self-nomination and enthusiasm. Mineta stood on his chair for emphasis. Bakugo had slammed his hands on his desk.
"PICK ME GUYS, I WANNA BE CLASS REP!"
"My manifesto is for all girls' skirts to be thirty centimeters above the knee!"
"Dude, what the fuck?"
"Someone with style would make a go—"
"I'm totally the right pick!"
"HEY! I'M YOUR ONLY CHOICE, LET ME DO IT, ME!"
A single voice cut through the noise like a blade.
"Silence!" Iida's voice rang out loud and clear.
He stood tall, one arm chopping through the air with determined rhythm. "The duty of class representative is not one of popularity. It is a role of leadership. Responsibility!"
His tone evened out as the room started to calm down. "To lead others, one must first have their trust. That cannot be shouted into existence, it must be earned."
He adjusted his glasses with a quick motion. "Therefore, the most logical course of action is clear. We must elect our representative… democratically. We will hold an election to choose our leader!"
Then someone muttered, "Huh?"
Another voice followed, "But Iida, we don't even know each other yet."
"Everyone's just gonna vote for themselves."
"Most people will," Iida replied matter-of-factly, hands slicing through the air again. "But that simply means whoever does receive more than one vote must truly be the most appropriate person to lead. Statistically speaking, it's the fairest option." He turned toward the front of the room, voice raised just enough. "Wouldn't you agree, Aizawa-sensei?"
Aizawa didn't even lift his head. "Do whatever you want," he muttered from his cocoon of scarf and fatigue. "Just figure it out before you waste more of Midnight's time."
"Understood! Thank you for entrusting us with this decision!"
If everyone just voted for themselves, did I even have a shot at winning?
I mean… I thought I could count on Kirishima and Mina to vote for me, but they both already blurted out their interest. So that wasn't exactly guaranteed.
I could always step in later, help settle things during lunch when the chaos happens. Then Midoriya would hand the position off to me like in canon.
But…
Yeah, no. Why leave it up to chance?
I stood up sharply, my voice cutting through the room. "There are a couple of flaws in your logic, Iida."
Iida blinked, startled. His eyes darted over to me. "Henshin? Please elaborate what you mean."
I gave a small nod. "You're assuming that the person who gets the most votes is the best representative. And sure, that makes sense… in theory. But not in a classroom full of people who barely know each other."
I glanced around. "Let's be honest, most people are just going to vote for themselves. I know you acknowledged this, but not the actual implications of this. What will happen is that the person who wins will probably only get two, maybe three votes at best. That doesn't reflect anything meaningful; it would end up being a fluke."
Iida tapped his chin briefly and gave a thoughtful nod. "I see. I hadn't considered that possibility. You're right. In that case, Henshin, do you have an alternative suggestion?"
I smiled faintly. "Yeah, I do. The issue isn't voting itself, it's voting without standards. So here's what I propose: instead of a free-for-all, we nominate candidates first. But not just names, each nomination needs a classmate to stand up and say why they think that person deserves it. If someone's really worthy of being class rep, they should have at least one person willing to vouch for them."
I paused to let the idea settle. "After that, we'll hold the vote. Simple, fair, and better than everyone just writing their own name."
There were a few scattered nods. A couple murmured, "Sounds good" or "Yeah, I like that."
Iida stood still for a moment, then gave a crisp nod. "It's a logical structure. I accept your terms."
"Great," I said, stepping forward. "I'll start us off."
I turned slightly toward the back row. "I'd like to nominate Momo Yaoyorozu and Eijiro Kirishima."
Momo blinked, surprised. Kirishima raised his eyebrows too.
"For Yaoyorozu," I continued, "she's incredibly intelligent, always composed, and even in just a couple of days, I can tell she genuinely wants to help her classmates. She'd take the responsibility seriously."
Momo gave a small smile, posture straightening.
"And Kirishima has a dedication to improvement that's unmatched. He's the kind of guy who leads by example, and I don't think he'd ever take a responsibility like this lightly."
I returned to my seat as Iida stepped forward.
"I'd like to nominate Izuku Midoriya," he said confidently. "In the combat trial and entrance exams, he showed grit, adaptability, and a willingness to put himself on the line. He made a difficult call at a critical moment. That kind of decisiveness is what leadership demands."
Mina stood next. "I nominate Kyūta!" she chirped. "He's crushed every class so far, helped people with English, and hasn't been a jerk about it. I'd totally trust him with leading our class."
Shoji raised a tentacle hand quietly. "I nominate Iida. He's organized, responsible, and already talks like a rep."
There was a short silence after that. I gave it about fifteen seconds, then stood again.
"No one else?" I paused for a second. No one else raised their hand, a few exchanged glances, but no one spoke. "Alright, then I think we're ready."
Iida looked thoughtful. "Should the nominated candidates be allowed to vote?"
"Yeah," I said without hesitation. "You can vote for yourself—or for someone else, if you think they'd do the job better. Just be honest about who you trust most to represent us."
Aizawa looked like he wanted nothing to do with this, so Midnight took over and handed each of us a slip of paper.
I wrote down Momo's name without hesitation.
Sure, I could've voted for myself, but I was practically guaranteed the win either way. I'd rather have her as my vice than any of the guys.
We passed our ballots forward. Midnight took them up front with a twirl, writing the names of the five nominees on the board and tallying the results beside them:
Kyūta Henshin: 8
Tenya Iida: 2
Eijiro Kirishima: 3
Izuku Midoriya: 3
Momo Yaoyorozu: 4
"Well, well," Midnight cooed, placing a hand on her hip. "Looks like we've got ourselves a winner. Kyūta Henshin, you're officially Class 1-A's representative."
She gave me a wink before turning to Momo. "And Vice Rep Yaoyorozu, don't think you're off the hook either."
Momo gave a quick bow of acknowledgment, cheeks slightly pink.
Midnight turned back to the class. "Now that that's sorted out…" Her grin sharpened. "It's time for my class. We've got an hour and a half, and I fully intend to make it count. I'll make sure you all work extra hard to make up for lost time"
Her eyes flicked back to Momo and me.
"I'm looking forward to seeing how the new class reps serve the rest of the room."
