Chapter 10 - Chapter 9 - Weapon Selection

¹

"Sigh… do I really need to do all of this?" Edward asked himself while gazing at the beautiful night sky.

Being a sailor, he was well acquainted with the stars back at Earth. He could easily identify that the stars looked different, the constellations he studied were not there. This made him sure that he was either in a totally different reality or was just on a whole different planet, far away from Earth.

Suddenly the door was slammed open, and Edward, who was still lost in his thoughts, was taken by surprise. Robert and Chloe came out running. Exhausted and panting.

Edward was speechless, this was the last thing he expected to happen.

"I wonder what happened inside..." Edward thought to himself.

"I leave the weapon selection to you." Chloe said, throwing a bunch of keys towards Robert. He easily catched them with both of his hands, just like catching a ball. Before he could react, Chloe rushed away in the opposite direction.

"I took the bait." Robert sighed in disappointment.

"What did she mean by weapons..." Edward asked with curiosity.

There was a slight silence before Robert spoke "Sigh... just follow me...".

"So, that is all we have. Choose one."

They were inside a huge basement, properly sealed. The walls were yellowish and the entire place was filled with weapons and some similar tools spread all over. It looked like a warehouse for keeping old metallic tools. Because most of the weapons looked as if they were kept there for a very long time.

"Hmm… What should I have? Hey Robert, have any suggestions?" Edward asked.

"Just get anything you like. Every weapon is good, if you know how to use it."

"Hmmm... How about this?" Edward asked, pointing towards a huge black metal hammer.

"Firstly, that's a smelting tool, just don't try lifting it, it's heavy enough to make you poop." Robert laughed.

"Ahh, my bad, how about this thin sword, or whatever you call it." He asked, lifting a flat sword-like pointy object.

"That's just a piece of junk!! Idiot!" Robert was clearly irritated.

"Wait!! Why do you have such things in your weapon room? I am not the one to blame, I thought they were some unique weapons from your world." Edward replied, it was clearly visible from his face that he was trying to defend himself…

"Just get yourself a basic sword, Arthur used swords as his primary weapon, you might get an advantage of his muscle memory and maybe learn to use it faster than usual." He said, as he was searching through a bunch of weapons kept at the side.

"How about this?" Robert tossed a dull gray sword towards Edward.

"Try swinging it diagonally with all the force you have."

Edward attempted exactly as Robert said. When he swung the sword he almost lost balance.

"Expected that… The sword was too long for you." Robert responded. Suddenly, his eye caught an old long wooden box. The box was painted silver and had multiple designs etched over it.

"Hmm, this looks special." He said as he opened the box, finding two swords, with identical colour and design but one was shorter in height. Robert tossed the smaller one.

Edward attempted the same thing as he did previously. "Hmm… can I also see the other one?"

This one was perfect, Edward was comfortable with the shape and size of the sword. Then he looked at the sword, it was bright grey in colour and its hilt was black, with some golden designs etched on it.

"Return the sword to me, I need to take permission from the elder to allow you to use this, I believe it's something important. Till then, use this" Robert said with a serious expression, throwing a black sword towards Edward.

"Fix it somewhere around your waist so it is comfortable for you to pull the sword out." He guided. The sword given to Edward was rather simpler. It was entirely black, had no design, just a plain normal sword.

"We will start our training tomorrow. Let's go for now... Also, I have been assigned to stay in your room."

"What do they expect me to do, run away? Do I even know anyone here? And why in the same room? " Edward frowned. "It can't be helped…"
