Episode 45: The Queen's Blood Moon
The sky was no longer whole.
A fracture split the moon, glowing like a wound. It bathed the land in redâa blood moon omen that hadn't appeared in over a thousand years.
Juvia's fourth sigil still burned faintly beneath her skin, leaving a pattern of glowing starlight over her chest. She hadn't spoken since they left the City of Stars.
Neither had Ha-jun.
They both felt it.
The Queen was stirring.
Lysian gathered supplies as they made camp in the ruins of the ancient Stargazers' Tower. The stones whispered old warningsâprophecies no one dared speak aloud.
As night fell, Ha-jun finally broke the silence. "She knows where we are now."
Juvia turned slowly. "She's coming?"
Ha-jun's voice was grim. "No. We're being summoned."
Suddenly, a screech pierced the air.
A massive black owl descended from the sky, its wings the size of trees. On its back sat a cloaked figure with skin like ice and eyes that bled gold.
"The Queen requests your presence," the creature rasped. "Bring the chosen, or we burn the mortal lands."
Lysian reached for his blade.
Juvia stopped him. "I'll go."
"What?!" Ha-jun stepped forward. "It's a trap!"
"I know," Juvia said. "But this path was never meant to be safe. She wants to see meâI'll face her."
The owl shrieked again, dropping a medallion onto the ground. It pulsed with black energy.
"Wear it," the messenger hissed. "It will take you where only the moon dares look."
Before anyone could argue, Juvia picked up the medallion and placed it around her neck.
The moment it touched her skin, the world spun.
Her body lifted into the air.
Stars bent around her.
The ground cracked beneath her feetâand she vanished in a burst of cold moonlight.
â
Juvia landed in a field of white rosesâeach one humming with sorrow.
Ahead stood a throne carved from obsidian and bone. And on it⌠sat the Queen.
She was beautiful and terrible. Her silver hair floated like mist, her gown stitched from shadows and moonfire. Her eyes were hollow stars.
"Child," she said, her voice echoing in Juvia's bones. "You wear my sigils well."
"I didn't come to serve you," Juvia said, her fists clenched. "I came for answers."
The Queen rose slowly, her smile bone-chilling.
"You came to remember."
She waved her handâand the roses wilted, revealing mirrors buried beneath.
Each mirror reflected a different Juviaâlaughing, crying, lost, in love, alone, broken, burning.
"You are a soul split by time," the Queen whispered. "I didn't make you. You did."
Juvia's heart thundered. "Why me?"
The Queen stepped close.
"Because even gods envy the moon. And you⌠are its daughter."
A surge of power burst from Juvia's chest. Her eyes glowed, her blood turned silver, her hands shook with unfamiliar strength.
"You are the key to ending this war," the Queen said. "Or starting one no realm can survive."
Juvia tried to breathe, but her lungs burned.
"Choose, child," the Queen whispered. "Be my heirâor be my end."
