Chapter 12 - The Central Plains

Lief walked for weeks, closing onto a month even! The scorching sun beat down mercilessly on his body. At night, the cold was chilling and bit into his skin like ants. Traveling long distances without Spirit Horses, even as someone with a strengthened physique like Lief, was utter hell.

And despite the grilling heat, Lief somehow didn't get tanned. His previous self on Earth was heavily tanned by harsh environment, though not as hot as this. Lief thought that one of the perfections made to his body might be the destruction of all sun damage.

He barely slept a few hours per night, and slayed the occasional Kyran Scout for food. The mushy flesh, though abhorrent and disgusting, was still a filling substance if one could digest it.

Thousands of miles of coarse black rock were hiked by Lief in his journey to the Central Plains, and eventually, the Li Clan.

At last, Lief could see green pastures, literally, far away. Quaking forests of colossal trees and great towering mountains dotted the landscape he saw. Beautiful.

Edging closer, Lief could see a few dozen houses and rivers with his enhanced perception. His bright red eyes shimmered with a faint light.

He saw a wooden wall which protected some of the huts. Easy enough to destroy. Lief quickly shook off the amoral thought.

His bleached form walked toward the village, stumbling slightly from fatigue.

"Stop! Stranger!" A guard shot an arrow at him. Defiance. Lief began to coat his arm with energy, preparing to destroy this village. No, no no. He wrestled with his thoughts, shaking off the urge to kill. When had he grown so violent? He shut off the cloak.

Remembering his name in this nexus, Lief answered the terrified guard with a loud shout. "I am Mo Xuan, and I'm looking for the Li Clan!"

The guard was even more afraid, though in a different type of fear. Mo Xuan? A demon? He reluctantly opened the gates for Lief to come in, fearful that he would be killed.

At the gates, an old man welcomed him in. "Greetings, Senior Mo, I'm Yi Ze, Chief of this small Stone Village." Stone Village, huh? Original. Lief thought.

"Do you know where the Li Clan is?" Lief asked. He was eager to get back to Li Feng and the others.

Yi Ze was confused. "Senior Mo, Li Clan is one of the Nine Celestial Families, mere peasants like ourselves can't possibly begin to reach them." He hesitated for a bit. "We're trading a few goods to Tiger Fortress in a few days. You can go with them."

Tiger Fortress? What's that? "Is Tiger Fortress near the Li Clan?" Lief focused on what was important in this question.

Yi Ze answered promptly, attempting to please the powerful man in front of him. "Tiger Fortress in only a dozen miles from here, and Seven Stars City, where Li Clan is located, is less than a thousand miles from there."

Lief nodded.

"In the mean time, please comfort yourself in our quaint village." Yi Ze put on a winning smile, trying to win Lief's favor. His wrinkled features were warm and welcoming, his eyes gleaming with opportunity. He motioned to the village behind him.

Children playing, calm rivers pouring water onto the farms. Looks nice. Definitely better than Earth. Earth had been a dangerous world of sharp scrap metal and hungry beasts. But worst of all was the humans which would kill you for a smallest resources. Now, that's been replaced with endless pain. Lief grimaced a bit at the thought.

As Lief walked into the village, a few women marveled at his physique. By now, Lief was wearing barely a few rags because of the previous battle with the Kyran Soldier.

His looks were totally unusual for the average non Psyker in the first nexus. Most peasant men wore hair in a bun and thick facial hair. Only high ranking nobility had the luxury to shave and wear their hair long and flowing. However, older Elders such as Elder Li still wore facial hair purely because of preference.

Along with the strangeness of his features, Lief was unnaturally pale and lacking of fat. Chiseled muscles like a sculpted statue of a god and athletic skeletal structure.

Eventually, he settled onto a seat on a smooth blue stone near a river. He admired how plentiful the fish were, how happy the children seemed. Such stark contrast to the Wilds and Earth.

"This place is... beautiful," he admitted.

One of the girls near him wasn't expecting the comment. "Why thank you, Immortal. Stone Village was founded three centuries ago in one of the more prosperous areas in the Central Plains, and we've been hard at work developing it ever since."

"Immortal?" Lief was confused. He had been addressed as senior before, which he understood. After all, he practically radiated amounts of power beyond this nexus. But I've never been called immortal before? Wait... Have they found out about my revival?

The girl cleared things up. "Ah, "Immortal" is just a title for the gods who rule over us. You seem like one of them." She handed Lief a basket of fish, bread, and fruit, before quietly leaving.

Lief continued watching the calm scene before him, tearing out a piece of bread with his slightly sharp teeth. Maybe I'll found a village like this someday. He entertained his thoughts, a dream that was so far away. That would never come true.

He got up and went to Yi Ze to talk about what he could do.

"Senior, your here again?" Yi Ze was nervous, what had the great immortal come for?

"Just wanted to see if I could do anything around here."

Yi Ze's eyes brightened up. "You can potentially try fishing? Maybe hunting? We've been running out of red meat lately."

He pointed to a building behind Lief. It was next to the river and right below a waterfall. "That's the smithy. You can find some spears over there."

"Alright." Lief headed to the smithy, ready to start working for this village. I am a good person, after all. Right?
