Chapter 20 - Coins

Jake walked to Lily and bent down beside her. He picked her from the group and held her close, making sure her eyes were covered. He didn't want her to see what would happen next.

The men saw Crypt kick their boss. They all pulled out their weapons and charged at him. Crypt stood in place. He lifted his foot and kicked the spear—it spun in his hands and immediately, he stabbed it into the ground, causing an explosive burst of wind that slammed into all the men and sent them flying into the walls.

Then he moved. His body became a blur, and what followed were their heads flying in the darkness, their torches falling to the ground the same way their heads fell.

In less than five seconds, the only one left was the boss. And when he saw Crypt walking toward him, his heart rate increased. He began sweating as if a bucket of water had been doused on him.

He tried to crawl back, but he was backed against a wall. "Stay back, stay back, you can have her, please just let me leave!" he yelled. He scratched around for anything to throw or use but got nothing.

Crypt stood in front of him, staring down with his glowing eyes like the harbinger of death. He grabbed the man and tossed him all the way over to Jake.

The man slammed on the ground so hard that he broke a few bones.

Jake looked at the man. "You broke a little girl, harassed her, beat her up—all for some money, right?" Jake asked, looking at the man.

"I'll give you all the money you could possibly want," Jake said. He got up and brought out the silver coins he had gotten as change after he ate and paid for the inn. There were at least a hundred pieces of them.

"Crypt, make sure you feed all of them to him. After that, you can kill him," Jake said and walked away while carrying Lily.

Crypt immediately walked up to the man, grabbed him by the throat, and lifted him off the ground. He took all the coins and immediately started force-feeding them to the man.

The man tried to scream and spit them out, but Crypt shoved them deeper into his mouth, and if he didn't swallow, he would die of suffocation.

Slowly but surely, Crypt fed the man all the coins and threw him to the ground. He took his spear and pointed it at the man who was barely conscious.

"Be grateful that you get to die at all," Crypt said and stabbed the man right in the head.

He walked out of the alleyway and saw Jake standing there.

"Are you done?" Jake asked.

"Yes, Master," Crypt replied.

They walked away from the scene like nothing had happened at all. But Jake had gotten something good from it.

He had gained quite a bit, but it wasn't much. Still, progress was progress.

They made it back to the inn that they had booked and walked in. Their room was on the second floor.

Riven took her into the room. He got some weird looks from the man at the reception, but he didn't pay attention to him. When he walked into the room, he tapped her head.

"You can finally look up," he said, but she was reluctant. She pushed her head closer to his body. He was about to ask her what was wrong, but then he felt a warm liquid seeping through his clothes.

'She's crying?' he wondered. He had never been with kids, so he didn't know why she would be crying right now.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"I'm sorry… sob," she said while crying.

"What are you sorry about? You didn't do anything. You were simply trying to survive. I don't blame you. I wish you could have told me earlier, then you wouldn't have had to go through what you did," he said while stroking her hair.

"You no longer have to worry about them, Lily. You can stay with me for now," he said. She suddenly looked up at him with her teary eyes.

"My name isn't Lily. I lied… it's Ophelia," she said.

Immediately she said Ophelia, the system woke up from its long sleep. It immediately looked at her—the white hair and all.

'It can't be, right? She can't be the one.' The system fell into thought as he saw her. 'Should I tell Jake? No, it's not time, and I'm not sure of it myself.' the system thought to himself.

"Ophelia, that's a beautiful name," Jake said with a smile. "Let's get you cleaned up, okay?"

[ . . . . . ]

At the scene where Jake had killed those men, two figures appeared—a lady with silver hair, tall and beautiful. She had sharp eyes and a cold demeanor. She wore armor that barely covered her well-toned body, and on her back was a massive greatsword.

Beside her was a small boy no more than fourteen. He had gold-blonde hair and blue eyes, dressed in black robes. But there was one unifying factor among them: the mark on the back of their hand—the same mark that Jake had.

"Seems someone touched your stuff," the boy said.

"Tsk, they were useless either way. The issue is my name. I can't allow someone to kill something of mine and go scot-free. I have to get them," she said.

She walked to the boss's body on the ground. She noticed something was off with his stomach, so out of nowhere, she pulled out a small blade and slashed it open, allowing the coins to pour out.
