Chapter 82 - [82] Judgment

Whoosh!

The Archangel Flame's bright yellow wings, encased in armor, spread wide, its fiery sword radiating a scorching aura that slightly raised the room's temperature.

"Whine."

The young Invisible Hound, sensing the archangel's formidable presence, cowered behind Adam's legs.

Adam studied the newly summoned third-tier angel, his eyes tracing its form.

"Divine type magic is quite intriguing." He mused.

Reflecting on the casting process, he realized no specific faith was required.

During his earlier meditation, Adam had visualized himself. If this world's casters could draw power from worshipping the Six Great Gods, why not believe in himself? He was a player, after all.

And then, he sensed an intangible cluster of mana.

To confirm, he pictured angels from various works of his previous life. Again, he felt that same mana cluster.

What was it?

To Adam, it seemed like magical energy inherent to this world. He'd summoned the Archangel Flame by tapping into it, though the process was hard to articulate.

If he had to describe it…

Adam lowered his head, pondering.

It was like projecting his thoughts into the mana cluster, triggering a reaction.

No, more like a "judgment."

But what was being judged? Adam couldn't pinpoint it. The process seemed instantaneous.

He glanced at the hovering Archangel Flame, sensing he could control it with a mere thought. Without commands, it defaulted to protecting its caster.

Such a summon was perfect for someone like him, posing as a Magic Caster while concealing his melee prowess.

"My divine type magic caster level, with all bonuses, is 40. I should be able to master sixth-tier magic (Level 36–42)." Adam thought, closing his eyes to meditate again.

He could currently access four divine occupations via his Genius class: Priest, Priestess, Forest Priest, and Cleric, each at Level 10.

With his prior experience, Adam quickly entered a focused state, mana ripples emanating from him.

But the next moment, the mana surge abruptly dissipated.

Adam opened his eyes, bewildered and surprised. "What? It failed?"

He tried again.

The same result.

After several attempts, Adam realized he couldn't summon a fourth-tier angel.

"That's it!" He exclaimed, a spark of understanding in his eyes. "I get it."

When summoning the third-tier angel, the "judgment" Sensation was faint. But now, failing repeatedly to summon a fourth-tier angel, he felt it clearly.

Summoning an angel required mastering the Summon Angel spell, first judgment, passed.

Next, caster level. His divine type magic caster level was sufficient, second judgment, passed.

The issue lay in the third judgment.

He aimed to summon a fourth-tier angel (Level 22–28). But his own level was only 21, too low to summon a creature stronger than himself. His player level was insufficient.

Fourth-Tier Summon Angel failed!

This "judgment" was Adam's way of framing it in game-like terms for clarity.

Native inhabitants of this world wouldn't face this issue, as their caster levels wouldn't exceed their overall level, unlike Adam's.

"For this world's people, mastering higher-tier magic is a learning process, raising their occupational level." Adam reasoned. "I could cast Third-Tier Summon Angel because I already knew the second-tier version and used my higher caster level to push it through."

He chuckled, his expression odd. "So this is the divine type magic system of this world?"

The mana cluster he sensed was likely natural energy in the world.

divine type magic Casters activated magic by merging their mana with this natural energy. "Faith" Might be a way to align oneself with specific aspects of that energy.

Adam wasn't certain, though. In YGGDRASIL, this was mere background lore. In this world, he hadn't discussed it with divine type magic casters.

Still, this firsthand experience gave him a clearer grasp of the divine type magic system.

Bang!

A faint mana tremor snapped Adam back to reality.

The Guardian Angel summoned by the scroll began dissolving into light particles.

Adam grabbed the pocket watch on the table, checking the time.

"Twenty-nine minutes and change, call it half an hour." He calculated. "Enough for a typical battle."

He glanced at his Archangel Flame, which showed no signs of fading.

Unless destroyed, his summoned angels likely lasted longer.

"Let's test its strength."

Adam reached into the air, retrieving his Silencer wand.

Mana surged, and an invisible barrier spread, enveloping the room.

The inn's rooms, designed for adventurer parties, were sparse, beds, a small table, little else, leaving ample space.

"Attack me." Adam commanded the Archangel Flame.

Whoosh!

The archangel, previously still, flashed red light from its armored visor. Its yellow wings beat once.

Swish!

It charged at blinding speed, its fiery sword slashing down.

Adam ducked, evading the swift strike, then kicked off the floor, retreating to create distance.

"Speed's average, about the same as an adult Invisible Hound." Adam assessed, expressionless.

He twirled his wrist, an iron sword appearing in his hand, raised to block.

Almost simultaneously,

Clang!

The archangel closed in, its fiery sword clashing with Adam's iron blade, sparks flying.

Creak! Creak!

The swords grated harshly where they met.

Adam drew his arm closer to his chest, legs slightly bent, eyes gleaming. "Good strength."

He glanced at the archangel's sword, likely imbued with fire and holy mana, ideal against undead but with fire damage more effective on non-undead.

"My turn." Adam said.

Gripping his sword tighter, he snapped a leg forward, aiming a powerful kick at the archangel's chest.
