Silke turned toward the window. He hadn't noticed until then, the clouds had cleared, leaving a canvas of deep navy and scattered stars.
The horizon glowed faintly, city lights bleeding up into the dark.
"Let's go.." he said softly.
---
They drove in companionable silence, up winding roads lined with trees and low hills, until they reached a quiet overlook.
The city sprawled below them, glowing like spilled gold.
The stars above were faint, but there.
Seram parked, turning off the engine but leaving the soft hum of music playing from the dashboard.
Some moody instrumental piece he liked.
Silke leaned forward against the dash to get a better look. "It's beautiful…"
Seram didn't reply immediately. He was too busy watching Silke.
The way the city lights painted him in shifting golds and blues, the curve of his neck exposed by the angle, the faint smile on his lips.
Seram reached for his phone instinctively.
