Annoying.
"What happened to guarding the west?! Instead, you got into a fight with a Boshài disciple!"
Annoying
"Not just a Boshài disciple, but the grandson of their Sect Leader!"
Annoying
"Not only that, you let him live!"
Annoying
"Do you have any idea how much your negligence has affected our plans?! Are you even listening?!!"
So annoying...
I let out a yawn as I slumped deeper into the chair, Feng Èr continuing to shout across the table in my face.
"Feng Sì!!"
She slammed her fist on the table, splitting it in two. I glanced at the table, then at Feng Èr, her face redder than the blood she spilled over the years.
I groaned, sinking further into the chair, "The mission was to secure the west, not kill unrelated targets. I just followed orders."
I watched as her twitching face turned from red to crimson, fists clenched tighter, demonic energy leaking out of her body with pure malice.
Here we go.
"FOLLOWING ORDERS MY ASS!!! YOU SON OF************"
I turned my head to the side, my gaze falling onto the sound-canceling talismans pasted all over the door. I wonder if the talismans will break with all the sound coming from this rat's mouth. I wouldn't be surprised. I sighed, closing my eyes as I let my mind drift to more important things, like lunch.
Just as I was about to fall into a half-nap, the door was opened, probably another one of the rats coming back. I opened my eyes and turned to the door. My eyes widened, body tensed at the sight, immediately standing up from the chair, I ran towards a wounded Jiě jie.
"Jiě jie!" I shouted, helping her to a chair.
I knelt down, holding her wrist as I checked her pulse with demonic qi. So far, I could see around three internal wounds and a few external ones. Thankfully, they weren't serious, but still…
"What happened?" I asked, a frown etched on my face.
Jiě jie sighed, leaning back into the chair, "I went to go see that Boshài disciple you let go. I let my guard down."
"Hah! So, in other words, the Great Red Crane of The Blood Moon was defeated by a mere cultivator at the foundation establishment realm," the rat sneered, crossing her arms.
My frown deepened, demonic qi surging out through the room. That quickly shut the rat up, leaving her scrambling to sit up in her chair. I clicked my tongue, turning my attention back to Jiě jie as I retracted my demonic energy. I took out a healing pill from my storage bag and placed it in Jiě jie's palm. She took the pill, the medicine taking affect moments later. Seeing that, I let myself relax before frowning again. Standing up, I walked towards the door, throwing on a black hooded cloak.
"Yā-er, don't."
I stopped, hand on the door. I turned my head a little, meeting Jiě jie's eyes, my gaze asking why.
"That cultivator should have already reported to his sect. We must report back to the sect leader and not be reckless," Jiě jie explained, standing up, now fully healed.
After a moment of silence, I turned back to the door and nodded. Feeling her approval, I pushed the door open and left the inn.
------------
I walked through the crowd of chattering people, hood pulled up over my head. Feeling the cold wind brushing against my face, my frown deepened further, with a black line appearing between my brows. I clicked my tongue in annoyance as I pulled the hood further down. I need to get a new mask for Jiě jie. I flashed back to my mask still tied around the side of Jiě jie's head, and then, I remembered her's. I was careless and did something unforgivable. Even if Jiě jie has already forgiven me, how will she be able to trust me with her stuff in the future? She took such great care of my mask, while I let her's burn into ashes. I can't even repair it now. The image of that cocky brat crossed my mind. Clicking my tongue again, thinking about all the nuisances in my life.
Too annoying.
I'll just kill him when we meet again, that should alleviate some of my hardships.
With that thought, I felt a sense of satisfaction as I stared at the cloudy sky. Winter should be coming soon, and by then, things will become more troublesome. I let out a sigh, my former satisfaction dissipating into nothingness. Will I ever know peace? But that question was soon answered. Probably not.
I lightly shook my head, shaking off my thoughts as I continued walking, wandering into a marketplace. As I strolled through the market, I felt a certain anomaly nearby. The energy was faint, but surprisingly profound, like an abyss that absorbed all things. I stopped, turning towards the direction of the energy. I let myself follow the faint trail, stopping at a stall with various jewelry on display. My eyes swept through the useless items until I landed on a glittering silver ring with small purple gems embedded into it.
I raised a brow at the item. I didn't expect something like that to be here. I picked up the ring, inspecting the spiritual energy circulating through the metal.
"Benevolent immortal, are you perhaps interested?" the seller suddenly asked.
It was an old lady, wearing some tattered robes, but I could tell that the material wasn't cheap. I looked back at the ring and then nodded.
"How much?"
"Two mid-grade spirit stones," she answered.
I inwardly smiled at the offer. I was ready to bargain at first, but it seems I don't have to. It was clear that the old woman wasn't aware that this was a spatial ring, if she did, she would've charged much more. Spatial rings are rare treasures, even the top sects have trouble obtaining them. Though two mid-grade spirit stones are not cheap, compared to the market price of such a treasure, this counts as straight-up robbery.
I quickly agreed, tossing two mid-grade spirit stones to the old woman as I walked away with the ring in hand. Getting a glimpse at the old woman's face, I saw a sly smile, like she had won something substantial. It hurt to part with half of my allowance, but for the item, the price was more than worth it.
I turned away, hiding a small smile of my own as I admired the ring in my fingers. From the looks of it, it was made with a special type of spirit metal, with fragments of a spiritual stone imbued with a whisp of the law of space embedded into the design. If this was sold at an auction, this would be worth millions of spirit stones, maybe even billions if sold at the bigger ones.
This will make a good apology gift for Jiě jie.
I scanned my surroundings, pocketing the spatial ring into my storage bag. After, I took out an hourglass, the fine spiritual sand already two-thirds of the way through the other side. I knitted my brows, clicking my tongue again.
It's almost time. I'll need to prepare for Elder Shen's arrival. I clenched my teeth. How annoying.
With a groan, I placed the hourglass back into my storage bag before dashing back to the inn. My figure quickly disappearing with the crowd, another annoying thing added to my list of hardships.

That concludes the chapter. Hoped you liked it. What do you think of Feng Sì? Is he was what you imagined? Any opinions anyone? I'll be happy to hear it! ;>
