Chapter 26 - The Main event

"Then they better get it back. Or they're done."

Tabaki exhaled, eyebrows raised. "Man… and here I thought Pulse was just 'punch good, explode sometimes.'"

Kenta chuckled. "Most people don't even know what type they are. The smart ones? They figure it out, and build around it."

The cloaked girl glanced toward the arena.

"So… what's next?"

Kenta followed her gaze. The flickering lights of the cleaning bots swept across the arena floor, clearing the remnants of the last fight. The hexagon still crackled with aftershocks, humming faintly as it prepared for the next battle

"Next? You start developing it," he said.

"Once someone discovers their Pulse type, that's just the beginning. Some have others to reference people with similar abilities they can learn from. But even then, no two Pulses are ever exactly the same."

He let that settle before continuing.

"Others have nothing. No mentors. No blueprints. Just raw , unique pulse."

"That's where it gets harder. You start experimenting. Theorizing. Struggling."

He turned back to her.

"Because at the end of the day, a Pulse is personal. Deeply personal. No one else can walk your path, they can only give you hints."

The announcer's voice boomed overhead:

"Ladies and gentlemen, the main event is about to begin...!"

Iwaizumi leaned forward, eyes narrowing.

"Hey... that guy. That's the one, right?"

Jiro followed his gaze. His expression shifted part pride, part quiet awe.

"Yeah. Gabriel Kirrily. They call him Crash Nova."

Gin leaned forward.

"Is he good?"

Jiro nodded, slowly, as if the question barely scratched the surface.

"Good? He's more than that. Best rising fighter in the MPAs right now. Kenta came out tonight just to see him fight in person."

Gin blinked.

"Wait Mr Kenta?"

Kenta smirked, eyes on the hexagon. "Let's just see how tonight goes."

Now Gin was really curious. If someone managed to impress Mr kenta, then this fighter had to be something else.

Definitely worth watching.

Wow...

Even Iwaizumi, who usually played it cool, looked genuinely surprised.

He'd already started enjoying the game but now, with a better understanding of Pulse types, his curiosity spiked.

Everything began to click.

This wasn't like the heroes in dungeon raids. This was something else entirely and he wanted more.

Iwaizumi and Gin exchanged a glance.

They hadn't known Kenta long,

but even now, he didn't seem like someone who was easily impressed.

If he came all the way out here just to watch…

Then this Gabriel guy had to be more than good

He had to be something else.

The arena lights dimmed.

A beat of silence then the crowd erupted like a crashing wave.

Gabriel stepped into the ring calm, focused, utterly unshaken.

Jiro leaned in, his voice barely above a whisper.

"His Pulse grants him legs strong enough to shatter stone literally. And those eyes…"

The camera zoomed in, locking on Gabriel's calm, unreadable expression.

Jiro spoke with a touch of reverence.

"He calls them God Eyes. From what I've heard, he sees movement, intent, even weaknesses before you act. It's like fighting someone who already saw the future… or someone with cameras for eyes."

Beside them, Kenta's arms finally relaxed. His gaze never left the ring.

"He's what I've been looking for."

Then, quieter almost to himself:

"You'll understand what I mean soon. Knowing your Pulse is just the start. Developing it… that's how you become great."

Tabaki finally noticed the cloaked girl beside them.

With the arena lights dimmed and all eyes on the hexagon, he could now make out the shape of her face soft features framed by an oval outline. Her skin looked smooth, almost delicate, though still hard to fully see in the dark.

She turned slightly, voice light with excitement.

"I'm excited to see him. He's actually the reason I came tonight."

One of her guards leaned closer, whispering with concern.

"My lady, it might not be safe to lower your hood. What if "

"It's fine," she interrupted softly. "They seem like honest people."

She turned fully now, pulling back her hood and for the first time, Tabaki and Iwaizumi saw her face.

Emerald green eyes caught the low light and stunned both boys.

"I'm Samira, by the way," she said with a smile. "You two look around my age. I'm seventeen eighteen in a few months."

Tabaki and Iwaizumi both nodded.

"Same here," Tabaki added. "Though I turn eighteen next month."

Samira grinned.

"Ha! I knew it. I'm never wrong with age guesses."

She chuckled in a way so cute, both boys turned quickly toward the arena to hide the blush creeping up their cheeks.

After a moment, Iwaizumi glanced back at her.

"So… do you come here often? You said he's the reason you came?"

"I guess I can tell you," she said with a teasing shrug. "I'm here to build a team."

Tabaki blinked.

"A team? Like… bodyguards?"

Samira laughed.

"Nope. I want to form a guild a dungeon exploration and hunter team. It's been my dream for years."

The boys stared at her, stunned.

"You can't be serious," Iwaizumi said. "That's… a lot of work. And money."

She smirked and crossed her arms.

"Money isn't my problem. Proving myself is. I'm building this team to show that old man he was wrong about me."

Her tone sharpened slightly. She scoffed under her breath.

"Do I look too soft to lead? Is that what you're thinking?"

Tabaki raised his hands.

"What? No! I mean we just met "

She turned to face her guards with a bitter smile.

"See? Even they don't know what I'm capable of. Guess I don't look like someone suited for hardship."

A pause. Then she exhaled and turned back to the boys.

"Anyway. Gabriel Kirrily is on my list. I want him on my team. I came to see him fight for myself."

Iwaizumi was clearly intrigued now.

Who even is this girl? Could she really afford to scout MPA fighters?

"If you're serious… how many members do you already have? And important question do you even have a Pulse?"

Samira smirked.

"I don't need a Pulse. Guild founders don't have to fight. They just need a team of seven Pulse users. Thanks to Grandpa Kenta, I already know exactly what types I need to form the perfect squad. We should be ready for our first raid in a few weeks."

Iwaizumi looked impressed but skeptical.

"You know convincing people to be heroes… isn't easy."

She gave a playful wink.

"I have my ways. But first I need Kirrily. Once he's in, the rest will fall into place."
