Tengen formed a massive chakra sphere, the Blazing Rasengan, its fiery glow radiating palpable menace.
Every ninja in the arena could sense the terrifying power within. What kind of jutsu was this?
"A Rasengan, infused with nature transformation." Minato Namikaze, the referee, said, awestruck. He hadn't expected Tengen to be such a prodigy, capable of altering the Rasengan in this way.
Minato suspected Tengen had learned the technique from Jiraiya, but to modify it so drastically? "Nature transformation… what if other elements were added?" Minato's eyes gleamed with intrigue.
In the stands, Hiruzen's gaze sharpened. "Rasengan?" He was familiar with Minato's seal-less jutsu, inspired by the Tailed Beast Bomb. But to see it reach this level, rivaling the destructive force of a Tailed Beast Bomb itself, was astonishing.
"Third Hokage, your prodigy isn't just exceptional in taijutsu and kenjutsu, his ninjutsu is equally remarkable." The Third Raikage said suddenly.
"Are you worried about your ninja, Third Raikage?" Hiruzen asked.
"Not at all. This level of power can't do much to the Two-Tails." The Raikage said, shaking his head. "It'll only enrage it further."
"I can't believe Tengen modified the Rasengan with nature transformation." Jiraiya said from the stands, stunned. Tengen's talent in ninjutsu was undeniable. Even Kakashi's Chidori, a feat of genius, paled in comparison to this innovation.
"Go!" Tengen's eyes hardened as he faced the charging Matatabi. He slammed the Blazing Rasengan into the Tailed Beast's massive form.
"What?" Matatabi faltered, a surge of power erupting across its body. The impact hurled it into the arena wall, cracking the structure with countless fissures.
Dust clouded the air, Matatabi's furious roars echoing within. The tiny human had provoked its wrath.
"Don't blame me, Yugito, or you, Matatabi." Tengen said, launching himself into the dust. He spotted Yugito atop the beast, her eyes closed, but the force of his attack had begun to rouse her.
"This is…" Yugito murmured, realizing she had transformed into the Tailed Beast.
"Yugito." Tengen called.
Yugito looked up, meeting Tengen's blood-red eyes. His Mangekyo Sharingan spun, four hollow circles interlinked in a haunting pattern.
"Sharingan…" Yugito froze, stunned. She hadn't imagined Tengen possessed the Mangekyo, a kekkei genkai renowned across the ninja world.
Shintenshin, Tengen said softly.
His Mangekyo whirled, and Yugito's eyes seemed to reflect the same power. Moments later, her eyes closed, and Matatabi's form dissolved. Yugito's body fell toward the ground, and Tengen caught her gently.
His Mangekyo deactivated.
Shintenshin, the ability of Shisui's Mangekyo in another world, could subtly control a target's will without their awareness, a profoundly powerful technique. In that world, it required a decade to recharge.
But with his perfect Mangekyo Sharingan and Uzumaki vitality, Tengen needed only a year to reuse Shintenshin. If he acquired Hashirama's Sage Body, that time could shrink further.
He had no qualms about using it. As the Two-Tails' Jinchuriki, Yugito would be a valuable asset, especially within the Kumogakure.
As the dust settled, Tengen stood revealed, holding the unconscious Yugito. The crowd exhaled in relief. The battle had been perilously close to disaster, and a misstep could have swept them into the chaos.
This outcome was ideal, the Two-Tails had been subdued.
"Tengen wins this match." Minato announced.
Kumo-nin swiftly retrieved Yugito. To their relief, she hadn't sustained irreparable injuries.
In the stands, the Third Raikage frowned, puzzled. The Blazing Rasengan shouldn't have defeated Matatabi. Had something else happened? Perhaps Yugito's awakening disrupted the transformation.
Determined to investigate, the Raikage decided to question Yugito later. Unbeknownst to him, she was now under Tengen's influence, a fact that would leave him disappointed.
The thrilling match gave way to several more, including one featuring Kurenai. Her mastery of genjutsu allowed her to outmaneuver her opponent, earning quiet approval from her sensei. Even if she lost later, her performance likely secured her a Chunin promotion.
This round of the Chunin Exams was the most challenging yet, with the other four great villages in attendance. The competitors were of exceptional quality, especially those who had survived the Forest of Death's brutality.
Yet no match surpassed the spectacle of Tengen versus Yugito. Their clash had reached Jonin-level intensity, though Yugito relied heavily on her Tailed Beast. For Tengen, a civilian-born Konoha-nin, to match her was extraordinary.
The matches continued, one after another.
Finally, it was time for a matchup involving Tengen's acquaintances: Shizune versus Terumi.
