~Bella's POV
As we stepped out of Mr. Donovani's office, I felt lighter, as if a heavy weight had been lifted off my chest. There was still a long way to go, but at least now, there was hope. Alex had been quiet for most of the conversation, only speaking when necessary, but his presence alone was enough to keep me grounded.
The afternoon sun was warm against my skin as we walked back to the car. Just as I reached for the door handle, something inside me stirred—a deep, overwhelming gratitude. I turned to Alex before I could stop myself and threw my arms around him.
"Thank you," I whispered, holding him tightly.
He stiffened slightly, as if surprised, but after a second, he relaxed and let his arms wrap around me. His grip was firm, steady, reassuring.
"You don't have to thank me," he murmured near my ear. "You deserve this."
For a moment, I just stood there, taking in the moment, feeling the warmth of his embrace. Then, a low throat-clearing sound broke the silence.
