His gaze darkened slightly, just as he was about to look away when her voice suddenly rose sharply.
"What did you just say?!"
Bonnie shot to her feet. "Wait there! I'm coming right now!"
She hung up and rushed toward the bedroom in a flurry. But in her haste, her slipper slipped out from under her, and she fell hard to the floor.
A cry of pain escaped her lips, she nearly burst into tears.
Derek's brow twitched sharply. He strode over in long steps and scooped her up from the floor, his face tight with worry. "Where did you hurt yourself?"
Tears welled up in Bonnie's eyes as she looked at him pitifully. "My... my knee…"
Derek gently placed her on the sofa, knelt on one knee, brows furrowed. He held her ankle and lifted her leg slightly, watching her expression closely. "Does this hurt?"
Bonnie shook her head.
"It's a good thing the bone's not injured," Derek said, still frowning.
But her knee was already swelling and turning a deep purple, it looked painful.
