Derek let out a faint "mm," lowering his eyes. "How could I possibly be in that kind of mood right now?"
His tone and expression instantly made Bonnie feel as if she had misjudged him, suspecting him of something he hadn't done.

She pressed her lips together and couldn't help but say, "I'm sorry."
Derek replied, "It's okay."
He walked to the other side of the bed, and Bonnie felt the mattress dip as the man lay down.
He reached out and turned off the light, and the room was instantly plunged into darkness.
Their breathing became the only audible sound. Bonnie closed her eyes.
A few moments passed.
Then came the man's low and pleasant voice: "Bonnie?"
Bonnie responded, "Mm?"
"Can I hold your hand?"
"..."
"I just… feel really awful inside."
A low sigh echoed in the room. The next second, Derek felt her move. Her soft, smooth fingers reached for his, and she slipped her delicate hand into his palm.
