I watched as blood instantly drained from Leonard's face. Of course he wasn't expecting me to ask about Vanessa, and I knew he was not prepared to talk about her but he had promised to make it up to me however I wanted him to. And this right there is how I wanted him to.
"Are you sure you want to hear Vanessa's story?" He asked. His voice was calm but deadly. It was as if he was suppressing far too many emotions but it was what I wanted. For far too long I have wondered, thought, and imagined who Vanessa was, and what she did, and now is the perfect opportunity I had to know the truth about her, and why a sudden mention of her is able to cause Leonard so much pain.
"She was an employee of mine who…" He trailed off but I urged him on with my eyes. I'm getting the complete story today and nothing is going to change it. Not even Leonard's emotions.
