But the village chief's response was clear: he couldn't help. He didn't want to become involved with the organization again.
I could see the sadness in his eyes, it was the kind of look someone makes when they've lost someone dear. I recognized it instantly, because I had worn the same expression when I lost my family.
When he made that face, I understood, we shouldn't force him to remember something he was trying so desperately to forget.
I turned to Mr. Park and said we should leave and look elsewhere for help.
Surprisingly, Mr. Park didn't object. He simply nodded. But just as we were getting into the car, the village chief came running after us. Though he still refused to get involved, he said he knew someone who could help.
He told us to head a bit further into the fishing village. There, we'd find a woman, the person who was once in charge of the serum that gave us our powers.
Following his advice, we drove down the only road that led deeper into the village. After a short while, we reached the place he had described.
It was a small, traditional Korean house, nothing about it seemed out of the ordinary. But as I stepped forward and opened the door, I suddenly felt something flying toward me. At the same moment, someone pulled me back.
It was Mr. Park. He had saved me.
I hadn't expected such an inconspicuous house to be booby-trapped.
