Chapter 5 - Investigation of a Bat

Author's Note:

I admit that I am very happy to write this chapter, because a certain Dark Knight will make his appearance.

I want to say I'm a huge Batman fan, he's my favorite DC superhero.

I watched the Batman cartoons, saw the movies, played the Batman: Arkham video game series (Asylum, City, Origins, Knight).

I hope I do a good job of introducing Batman.

PS. A little warning, I was suffering from severe pain in my cheek/gums/teeth while writing this chapter.

So I'm not sure I'm at my best as a writer, but I think I've done a decent job, despite my dental problems.

This confirms my theory that I have D-Rank Luck, I'm not EMIYA, but I'm definitely not Gladstone Gander.

My dentist went on vacation just when I needed him, at least I received a list of medications to solve part of the problem until he returned.

POV Narrator

The sun has set, the moon has risen, but life in Gotham City goes on.

Gotham City, like many other large cities, never sleeps; in its case, it is more active at night than during the day, especially when it comes to criminal activity.

Those who can, prefer to go home as soon as possible, avoiding coming into contact with the worst of Gotham City.

Others, however, emerge from their dens with the appearance of the moon, eager to pursue their ambitions.

Anyone who wants to make money at other people's expense.

Who wants to expand his territory.

Who wants to take their rivals to the bottom of the sea.

Who wants to discover the truth.

Who wants to save Gotham City.

Who just wants to eat a hamburger in peace after a hectic day.

Right now, Gotham Network is airing a major story on its evening news.

On the screens of hundreds of televisions throughout Gotham City is the famous woman Vicky Vale, a television journalist from Top.

Vicky Vale is a beautiful woman who just turned 29, long red hair, green eyes, wears an elegant and cute black and red dress.

"Good evening Gotham City, I'm Vicki Vale from the Gotham Network and I'm about to bring you the latest news." Vicky said, doing the usual introduction of the TV show.

"This afternoon Credit Chase, a bank in the Burnley district, was the victim of an armed robbery." Vicki Vale said, as an image of the bank appears in the top corner of the screen.

"The leader and planner of the robbery was Andres de Fonollosa, nicknamed Berlin. A notorious professional robber from Europe, who escaped from a French prison after a failed diamond heist." Vicky said, providing information about the villain of this story.

In addition to making Berlin, Andres' official stage name.

Now, the nickname Berlin has become Andres' official villain title, increasing his status in the criminal underworld.

Berlin's mug shot from Interpol appears in the corner of the screen.

"I can happily say that all members of Berlin's gang were captured and no civilians or bank staff were hurt." Vicky said, delivering the good news.

"This rescue cannot be claimed by the Gotham Police Department, or Batman, or any of his sidekicks." Vicky said with a smile, preparing her audience for the bombshell news.

"Commissioner Gordon has not made any statements, but the people in the bank were happy to tell what happened," Vicky said, keeping the tension high.

"It looks like the situation at Credit Chase has been resolved by a new hero, Bloodfallen." Vicky Vale declares the biggest news in recent times.

"Yes, you heard me right, it's not a new supervillain, it's a hero." Vicky Vale said, aware that new supervillains often appear in Gotham City.

"We have been unable to obtain photographic evidence of this Bloodfallen, so Gotham Network is offering a reward to the first person who brings us a photograph or video of Bloodfallen." Vicky said, adding this part as ordered by the station's head.

In a small private apartment we can find an off-duty policewoman.

She is Detective Ellen Yin, a twenty-five year old woman who transferred to the Gotham Police Department only a year ago.

Ellen Yin is a half-American, half-Japanese woman, tall, athletic, and quite beautiful.

Her black hair is held in a simple ponytail, her brown eyes show great strength and intelligence.

Ellen is in the living room of her apartment, with a slice of pizza in her hand while watching TV.

"Another hero this city doesn't need tall masked vigilantes." Said Ellen, part of the unofficial faction of the Gotham Police Department that has no tolerance for Batman and his minions.

"Vicki Vale talks about how this Bloodfallen saved the hostages, but not how he destroyed a large part of the bank safe," Ellen said, confident that the news was only reporting the good parts of the day's story.

"Why am I surprised, Vicky Vale is almost the Lois Lane of Gotham City, she often praises Batman for his actions and gets into trouble, at least she is smart enough not to be saved every day by a man in a cape." Said Ellen Yin, not being a big fan of the press, which often criticizes the police and praises vigilantes.

"But I'm curious about this Bloodfallen, only Commissioner Gordon and the SWAT team have seen him up close." Ellen said, slightly intrigued to see what Gotham City's new vigilante is like.

"Sooner or later, I will see it with my own eyes, if Bloodfallen is a vigilante with heroic tendencies, and I am one of the best Detectives in the police department, we will definitely meet and I will arrest him." Ellen Yin said, not knowing when she is right.

Although her future encounters with Gotham City's new hero won't end the way she thinks.

In the Burnley district, a dark figure moves across the rooftops with a speed and silence that should not be possible for an ordinary human being.

The mysterious figure stopped on the edge of the roof of a certain building that has a good view of Credit Chase.

As if the world had a will of its own and a taste for drama, the clouds in the sky shift, allowing the moon to shine on the mystery individual, revealing him to be Batman.

The Dark Knight is a 188cm man, with a muscular physique like no other, not even an Olympic athlete can compare to him.

The Batman costume consists of a gray armored jumpsuit, a black bat symbol on the chest, black gloves and boots, a golden multifunctional belt, a long black cape, a mask that covers the entire face except the lower part of the face, the mask has white lenses to hide the eyes and two pointed ears.

The Dark Knight remains silent as he watches his target for tonight, Credit Chase.

The bank was closed to allow the police to investigate and gather evidence about the crime that occurred.

The same goes for the sidewalk and street in front of the bank, Bloodfallen's actions have extended the crime scene outside.

Batman raises a pair of fingers and places them on his left temple, the pointed ears of his mask not only for aesthetics, but also to hide the existence of a cutting-edge communication system.

"Alfred, I have arrived at Credit Chase, I begin my investigation." Batman said, communicating his location to his closest and most loyal ally.

"Master Bruce, I understand that you feel obligated to investigate every new player that appears in Gotham City. But it hasn't even been 24 hours since Bloodfallen first appeared, so far." Alfred said, speaking from the Batcave, performing the duties of a logistics officer.

"Gotham is my city, I need to know everything that moves in it." Batman said, before jumping off the roof.

The Dark Knight's cape extends and solidifies, becoming a kind of hang glider.

Batman landed in the middle of the street, in front of Credit Chase, starting his investigation.

On the street there are numerous objects scattered from inside the bank, the most important things are two police cars with damaged hoods and windows.

Batman activates Detective Mode, a sort of system that allows him to better analyze a crime scene, seeing things that the naked eye cannot perceive.

"According to the police and local hospital report, two criminals were thrown out of the bank by a blast of wind." Batman said, analyzing the position of all the objects.

In Batman's vision, orange holographic copies appear, along with red lines showing the trajectory of where the objects came from.

The Dark Knight walks toward the front doors of Credit Chase, which have been blocked off with yellow police tape, to convince law-abiding people to stay away and not contaminate the crime scene.

But that didn't stop Batman, who walked on, entering Credit Chase.

The Detective Mode software created a simulation of how the objects and two of the criminals were thrown out of the bank.

"The robbers are ten meters from the front door, the attack that hit them came from in front of them." Batman said, picking up another piece of the puzzle.

Touching the side of his hood activates the magnified view of his special lenses.

Using this enhanced vision, Batman finds small scratches caused by the blast of wind, pinpointing the location of the attack's origin.

Not only did he find bullets embedded in the walls and floor of the bank's entrance.

"Given the position of the robbers, the bullets could not have reached these points without outside interference." Batman said, comparing the position of the heavy objects with the trajectory and ricochet of the bullets.

Batman stopped ten meters away from the fifteen-foot-long and seven-foot-high marble wall Bloodfallen had created to protect the hostages from the robbers' gunfire.

Batman stopped ten meters away from the marble wall, five meters long and two meters high, created by Bloodfallen to protect the hostages from the robbers' gunfire.

"Bloodfallen was located at this spot." The Dark Knight said, noticing a couple of cracks in the marble floor, as if something heavy had landed on them.

"Bloodfallen created a wall to protect the hostages, then jumped over it, and when he landed he damaged the floor." Batman said, reenacting the first half of the fight in the bank lobby.

Batman stands in the same place where the Vampire Sarkaz was and turns towards the front door.

"The criminals fired at Bloodfallen, but he managed to deflect the bullets, then launched his low-wind attack, defeating the robbers." Batman said, finishing his account of the battle in the bank lobby.

"This Bloodfallen is strong and fast with the ability to manipulate the molecular structure of the ground and create an explosion of compressed air. This means that Bloodfallen is a Meta-Human or possesses advanced technology." Batman said, not having enough information to conclude the origin of the new player's superhuman abilities.

Batman pulls a simple gadget from his belt to collect a sample from the marble wall, which will be analyzed later in the Bat-Cave.

Once he has the soil sample, Batman walks around the marble wall, finding faint bloodstains and a pair of teeth on the floor, clues to how Bloodfallen defeated two robbers using his bare hands.

"Alfred, can you access the Credit Chase surveillance system?" Batman asks, wanting to get a clear view of what happened at the bank, not relying on partial data or the words of frightened hostages.

"The cameras go off just before Bloodfallen arrives, when two criminals go to the second floor of Credit Chase. At the same time, Berlin, with two of his men and the Bank Manager go to the basement, towards the bank Vault." Alfred said, only getting this information from his hacking work.

"Bloodfallen must have disabled the cameras, which means he has some skill with computers, as well as a certain caution, not to leave any clear traces of himself." Batman said, learning more about the new player, nothing concrete, but it will lay the foundation for a profile.

"According to the timing, Bloodfallen immediately deactivated the cameras and entered the second floor, where he defeated the two criminals, then went downstairs and dealt with the four robbers while keeping an eye on the hostages and the front door." Batman said, getting a general picture of how things went down.

"Master Bruce, I have found something strange, the first two criminals who were defeated by Bloodfallen required medical attention, they did not suffer any external injuries like their other companions, but they showed signs of anemia." Alfred said, providing an important piece of information to the World's Greatest Detective.

"Anemia? Are you sure Alfred, the two criminals couldn't have already suffered from this disease?" Batman asks, having seen cases where a sick person decides to commit extreme actions not fearing the long-term consequences, because of their disease. If you have little time left to live, you no longer fear life in prison.

"According to the medical records of the two criminals, who are uncle and nephew, they have no previous cases of Anemia, not even in their family. However, I found an oddity in the medical records of the prison infirmary and some clinics of dubious reputation, it seems that the cases of Anemia have risen in the last three months in Gotham City." Alfred said, finding a more important clue.

"The subject's name is Bloodfallen which can be translated to Fallen Blood, how he operated today shows a certain degree of preparation and training, at the same time there are signs of numerous cases of Anemia over a three month period. Do you know what that means Alfred?" Batman said, learning something important about the new player.

"Let me guess, Master Bruce, Bloodfallen is not an impulsive person and does not like the spotlight, this reminds me of a certain hero at the beginning of his career." Alfred said, remembering what Batman is like at the beginning of his legend.

"We are not investigating a newborn Meta-Human or an impulsive person who has obtained advanced technology in his hands. Rather, a cautious, far-sighted individual who knows how to keep his head down. The investigation into him will not be easy at all." The Dark Knight said, increasing his respect, his caution and his suspicion towards the new player.

With nothing else to see, Batman walks to the bank's basement.

Batman has entered the damaged Credit Chase vault.

"Bloodfallen's strength and endurance must be superhuman, he managed to survive a powerful explosion inside the vault and have enough energy to break down the blast door with brute force." Batman said, seeing Bloodfallen's slash marks on the vault door.

"I wonder where this Berlin, a foreign criminal, managed to obtain explosives with such force?" asks the Dark Knight, shifting his attention from the new vigilante to the new criminal.

Batman kneels down and examines the hole created in the vault floor, which is deep enough to reach the sewers.

"Once tonight's work is done I'll have to chemically clean your costume, the smell and dirt from the sewers is hard to get out." Alfred said, knowing he has a difficult job ahead of him.

Ignoring his Butler, Batman threw himself into the hole in the floor using his grappling hook to slow his fall.

XXX

In the sewers the Dark Knight found a huge inflatable mattress, eight getaway motorcycles and signs that the police had been here.

"Nine robbers, eight motorcycles, looks like Bloodfallen took a souvenir." Batman said, activating Detective Mode to chase the tracks left by the motorcycle.

"Master Bruce, do you think that by following these tire tracks, you will find Bloodfallen's hideout?" asks Alfred, as he is using the Bat-computer to view maps of Gotham City's sewer system, which is a veritable labyrinth.

"Unlikely, if Bloodfallen has shown signs of caution, but I could narrow down his area of action or find other clues." Batman said, starting to walk through the sewers.

XXX

After half an hour of walking, the tire tracks stopped near a ladder leading to the exit from the sewer through a manhole.

"I lost track of Bloodfallen, where is my location Alfred?" Batman asks, wanting to know where he is.

"According to your whole GPS system, you're in the sewers beneath Crime Alley." Alfred replies.

"Batgirl and Robin's location?" Batman asks, as he climbs the stairs out of the sewers.

"They are proceeding with their joint patrol as planned, you are not too far from them." Alfred said, looking at the position of his three charges.

"The investigation into Bloodfallen will continue at another time, I can't ignore Gotham's other problems just for a new face." Batman replies, having his priorities straight.

In a workshop hidden from public view, a woman has just finished watching Vicky Vale's broadcast about Berlin and Bloodfallen.

The woman named Seoul is a Korean woman with black eyes and black hair that reaches her shoulders. She is dressed in an elegant black leather dress

"But first I'll try to teach the man who ruined our plans a little lesson." Seoul said, holding up a round bomb that emits a scary green glow.

Apparently Berlin has his own Harley Quinn, who appears to be capable of building exotic explosives.

The future near Gotham City will not be peaceful.

In the meantime, while everyone is busy for one reason or another, the man of the moment is keeping the promise he made to himself.

Bloodfallen, no, Leonardo, is not in his underground hideout.

Instead, he is in room 423 on the fourth floor of a three-star hotel in Gotham City.

Leonardo is dressed in a soft white bathrobe, with the hotel's initials engraved in the heart area.

The Vampire Sarkaz sits on the edge of a double bed, next to him is a trolley full of food, including a small pyramid of hamburgers.

In front of him is a large TV showing a Fast and Furious movie.

"My first mission was completed, there were some mistakes, I would give myself a B." Leonardo said, as he took one of the hamburgers from the cart.

"Anyway, I got a nice loot, today is a celebration and tomorrow it's back to work. I'll have to make some important purchases, maybe I can make some significant progress with Lily Artemis and maybe start the construction of a Magic Reactor, I'll need a large power source if I want to summon a Saber Class Servant." Leonardo said, having some important plans to make.

Author's Note:

I hope you enjoy this chapter, I managed to write it from scratch in two days, but I think it gave me a slight migraine.

Being sick sucks, it allows you to do nothing all day and dedicate yourself to writing/reading, but when it gets worse you can't even do that.

Anyway, I want to say two things:

1) On 6/7/2025, at 16:15, in FGO, I managed to get Mordred (Saber) to pass bond level ten. This got me thinking, when should I bring Mordred into the story.

In the next chapters/episodes, Bloodfallen will finish building Lily Artemis II, having a robot girl specialized in mechanics and engineering should develop Chaldea's technology in less time.

My idea is for Bloodfallen and Lily to have two or three adventures in Gotham City, then go to Metropolis to get the last components to finalize the FATE system, so I can write a Mordred X Supergirl scene.

Is this scheme fine, or should I say that in Metropolis they get enough material to build a robot girl for battle, that is EVE. And do I make Mordred appear later, maybe after two or three Adventures in Metropolis and Central City, when Bloodfallen and company return to Gotham City?

2) In less than 48 hours on Genshin Impact, the Pyro Archon, Mavuika, will become available and I am hoping to get it, I have been saving Gems for this occasion for a long time.
