Chapter 118: Dark Demon is Unremarkable

The first day of November.

Wednesday.

Halloween itself.

Six o'clock in the morning.

...

Lily Laplace woke up in the slight chill.

"Mwah~"

She smacked her lips, her eyes opening a sliver.

She then saw a short-haired cat lying prone at the head of the bed, licking its own ear.

"Don't mess around."

Realizing this wasn't her own little nest, Lily tried hard to wake up.

She slowly crawled out from under the covers and let out a small breath.

Then she saw the blond boy curled up beside her.

"Hehe."

Seeing Dark Demon sleeping soundly, Lily couldn't resist reaching out a finger and carefully poking his cheek.

Soft, like jelly pudding.

Her finger recoiled.

The highly elastic skin smoothed out, following her retracting fingertip.

Lily stopped after that little touch.

"Time to go back and catch some more sleep."

The little pixie, flapping her wings, flew slowly back to her own little house.

And Dark Demon was still fast asleep.

He hadn't slept this soundly in a long time.

When all burdens were lifted, and both body and mind became comfortable, sleepiness became particularly strong.

It wasn't until nine-thirty that Dark Demon suddenly opened his eyes.

The first thing he did was check the [Sloth] indicator, but found it hadn't increased.

"Is it because I slept soundly enough?"

"Or is it because I really needed that much sleep?"

Having come to his senses, Dark Demon quickly noticed Professor Lily Laplace's unannounced departure.

He didn't pay it much mind, then washed up, changed his clothes, applied a Trash Slime face mask, and welcomed a new day.

LadyDevimon, emerging from the House Card, still hadn't reverted to DemiDevimon.

Probably because she had absorbed too much power from the goddess statue, this evolution was lasting an exceptionally long time.

Helpless, Dark Demon went to the cafeteria for breakfast himself, something he hadn't done in a long while.

The students had probably all just woken up around this time; the cafeteria was surprisingly crowded.

They were generally still discussing the same topics as in the early morning.

Occasionally, Halloween gifts were mentioned.

But they were mostly things like toffee, toffee apples, and chocolate cookies.

Halloween was still different from Christmas; gifts weren't considered as important.

...

After finishing breakfast, Dark Demon made a detour to the infirmary.

He hadn't found a chance to return Virt's magic cards last night, so he thought of finding Robert here and giving them to Virt through him.

"Is Sister Carian in?"

Dark Demon carefully pushed open the door.

But he saw Sister Carian still slumped on the desk, dozing.

She was clearly exhausted, her exposed profile etched with weariness.

Dark Demon didn't have the heart to wake her, so he gently walked into the infirmary and found Robert Broheim among the patients near the entrance.

Robert seemed oblivious to everything, sleeping very blissfully.

Dark Demon put Virt's cards, wrapped in a bag, by his bedside.

Then he prepared to leave the infirmary.

But just as he was about to turn, he noticed that more than half the patients in the infirmary were on IV drips.

However, unlike ordinary intravenous drips, the needles were inserted into the temples of their heads. The solution bags hanging by the bedsides were spherical and contained glowing potions.

Upon closer inspection, one could see that the part of the needle inserted into the brain, much like when Old John used the iron hook of fate to retrieve magazines, had undergone some kind of etherealization.

And the potions in the spherical solution bags were all nearly empty.

Although he didn't know what kind of potions were in the bags, based on common knowledge about IV drips, Dark Demon knew it was time to wake Sister Carian!

"Dark Demon?"

Sister Carian had already appeared silently behind him.

Dark Demon was slightly startled.

Sister Carian, however, said, "You're just in time. Can you help me refill those solution bags with new potions?"

Dark Demon nodded, "Of course, no problem."

Sister Carian rubbed the corners of her eyes and took out two test tube racks from the medicine cabinet. Each rack was filled with test tubes sealed with cork stoppers.

The test tubes contained two different liquids.

"This pale yellow potion is Glimmer Potion. It can effectively eliminate the side effects of Soul-Lost Water, making the bond between soul and body stable and less susceptible to mental illusions."

"This golden-yellow potion is Andersen Potion. It has a miraculous effect in dispelling curses and can remove most curses and mind-control spells involving the brain. If taken beforehand, it can also protect the brain from mental manipulation."

"Although they look very similar, they are actually completely different potions. Follow me, don't mix them up."

A total of thirty patients needed their medication changed.

Fourteen of them needed Glimmer Potion, and sixteen needed Andersen Potion.

The remaining nineteen, although also injected with Soul-Lost Water, were not in serious condition.

They only needed two to three days of rest to fully recover.

In fact, the most troublesome were the fourteen couples whose emotions and memories had been extracted.

Glimmer Potion could only stabilize their minds; they would need more treatment for their emotions and memories to gradually recover.

According to Sister Carian, human emotions and memories have backups in the brain and are not so easily erased.

"Anyway, as long as they can recover, that's good."

Dark Demon, after inquiring clearly, also quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

Although he had his own considerations at the time, he indeed hadn't intervened when their emotions and memories were being extracted. If their emotions and memories couldn't be restored, he would feel somewhat guilty.

Sister Carian seemed to see through his thoughts and couldn't help but scoff, "Dark Demon, I heard about you when I was still on duty at the Holy Order. They all said you were the devil's incarnation, the shame of the ducal family, a son of a Valkyrie who inherited none of her martial virtues. I thought you were quite an interesting person back then, but I didn't expect you to grow into such a dull personality."

Dark Demon: "???"

Sister Carian casually poured Andersen Potion into the last Seafood Cult member's spherical solution bag and continued, "Saving ten people versus saving a hundred people. If among the ten, there is someone important to you, and among the hundred, though you don't know them, they are all innocent people, which would you choose?"

Dark Demon: "The ten, I suppose."

Sister Carian: "???"

Dark Demon couldn't help but shake his head, "Sister Carian, people's emotions and actions are separate. If I saved ten people and caused those hundred not to be saved, I would feel guilty, but next time I would still save these ten. This itself isn't a conflict. Those hundred people, in essence, didn't die because of me. My guilt is only because my ability was insufficient to save all one hundred and ten people at the same time."

Sister Carian was stunned for a long moment, then scratched her messy silver hair somewhat awkwardly, "Alright, I was wrong. I still have some Glimmer Potion and Andersen Potion left. You can choose one as a reward."

"Andersen Potion, then."

Dark Demon didn't hesitate.
