Finally after it got dark I was able to leave the cave. I blurred out into the night trying to get a bearing on where I was. In the distance I can see a hill. Perfect. That will allow me to terrain associate and get out of here.

In less than 30 minutes I reach the top of the hill and look out all four directions. To the east is a small town. I can see buildings and people moving about but I'm too far away to hear them.

With a direction in mind I speed off toward the town eager to get out of the snow. While it doesn't bother me temperature wise, I'm from a warm place. Besides, I need to find out what crazy world I've been dropped into.

In less than 2 hours I reach the town proper, relief flooding my veins as I see modern cars and cell phones in use. One thing that I quickly realise is a problem is my hunger around such large Groups of people. I all but blur to the nearest bus station while trying to keep my cool.

I stop short remembering I can't be in direct sunlight. 'A boat it is then.' I say to myself heading towards the dock.

I hear the bustle of workers. Screams of profanity and other nonsense assaults my ears. To my right I hear a man stumble and I catch the box he was about to drop. "I got you," I say helping the man lift the box.

Looking at me is a young Tom welling look alike, "thanks." He said. We didn't speak again until we'd gotten the crate up to the ramp where another group were. After setting it down the young man about my age turns to me and speaks.

"Names Jacob. Nice to meet you." He sticks out his hand.

I grab it with my own, careful to try and control my strength, "Cole. Really nice to meet you." I say happy that I'd made some normal connection here. After the group of what I assume to be witches /wizards massacre and the latest 'awakening' of mine, having a conversation is so nice.

As we begin walking to the next box Jacob goes to grab a smaller one while I grab one of the exact same size we'd just carried and picked it up after 'straining' for a second. "Woah kid, calm down! You'll throw your back out doing that." A gruff voice calls from behind me. I turn to see an older gentleman. Probably mid to late 40's. Salt and pepper was the color of his hair. And he actually looked a lot like my new companion.

"Dad!" My suspicions are confirmed when my new friend calls out and runs up. "Cole here helped me when I almost busted my ass and the cargo."

Then man turns back from his son to me with a genuine smile on his face. "Then I owe you my gratitude. If there's anything I can do for you don't hesitate to ask." The man says.

"Actually…" I began. "I need to get out of Alaska. Where's this boat delivering too?"

He laughs. "Then you're in luck. We're going over to Washington to give away these fish in exchange for furs. You're more than welcome if your willing to work." He said beginning to turn around.

"Excuse me. There are two shifts on the boat correct?" I ask.

At his nod I continue. "My last job was exclusively at night. I worked in parks and rangers for years. Even before I was technically legal age. Anyway, what I'm saying is my biological clock is set backwards. I sleep during the day and work at night."

He nods, "met many others like ya. Who knows, you may find that you like the sea and decide to stay."

While I highly doubted that I just smiled and thanked the man before following him and Jacob back toward the ship. Apparently they had an extra bed, perfect.

2 Days later

The hunger had set back in. Terrible, hunger. I knew what I needed but also knew I couldn't kill somebody on the ship and remain anonymous. I'd been short and bad tempered all day and Jacob had even mentioned it.

Now I'm walking down one of the corridors during my shift trying to deny the need for blood.

That stops when I smell it down the corridor corner. My legs move on their own, in an instant I'm in front of a fellow ship worker.

He looks up startled. "What's wrong with you?" He asks. But I barely hear him.

All I can see, hear, or smell is the blood. Grabbing him by the neck and pinning him against the wall I speak. "Don't scream. It will be okay."

He looks to be in a trance, "I won't scream. It will be okay." Odd. I'd seen that ability in a vampire before. The ability to compel the mind.

I decided to experiment for a second, looking into his eyes again I speak, "after I'm done with you. Forget this ever happened."

"I will forget this ever happened." He says before I descend into my meal. After only a few seconds I release him and decide to confirm the theory I'm building about what world I'm in.

I bite my wrist like I'd seen on one of my favorite vampire depictions ever and shove said bleeding wrist into the mouth of the man I'd almost killed due to blood loss.

In but a moment the wound begins to heal. "Forget," I say looking into his eyes and blurring away. Finally confirming it. I'm in the TVD universe.

'This is about to be crazy.' I say when the realization hits me as I go back to my duties on the ship. The only question is, how am I gonna survive a world where magical beings fight and endless war?

I have no clue. But I know the first thing I need, a daylight ring.
