Chapter 18 - A Story To Be Told

CHAPTER 18

He stood there in shock, watching her as she mouthed those very words. He was taking a moment to process everything she had said while trying hard to believe the fact that he had always been a pawn in the middle of everything he had experienced.

"If Enma is the god of death, then who are the other gods?" He asked, following behind her.

"They are simply beings of a higher plain of existence compared to the average person. They managed to achieve omnipotence at some point and are now hailed as gods by the people." She said, slowly opening the door to a room.

She walked in and quickly locked it immediately after he walked in, before quickly walking to a bookshelf by the end of the room. There were only a few number of books placed in it, neat and seemingly untouched.

She quickly reached out and brought out the books before walking back to where Megumi was seated. Slowly, she placed the book right before him and proceeded to then sit next to him.

"The book contains scriptures on histories of this place, although some of it I'm not yet sure of. Feel free to go home with it, and make sure you bring your sister along the next time you come here." She said, turning her gaze toward him.

All he gave her was a side eye before turning back to the book on the table in front of him. Slowly, he reached toward it, flipping over the first page and carefully began reading through each line of text.

It was nothing but knowledge of everything she currently knew about the place, and from the looks of it, someone most likely told her about it. They matched a bit too perfectly for bits of information she could have gotten at different points in time.

It began with the story of the first creation and the birth of gods; the first people were granted divine powers with which they ruled over the people, fostering between them peace and prosperity.

In the end, they came to the decision to grant a few select people their powers in an attempt to balance the world.

That was where things began getting interesting as their attempt ended up bringing the exact opposite of what they wanted to happen. The power gap grew all the more imbalanced and an outrage began amongst the people.

Why was it only a few deemed worthy to inherit the power of gods? They were insecure about what these people could do with said powers, and their worries all proved to be right.

The powerful used their abilities to fight their way into authority and continued to oppress those weaker than them. The nature of human beings could not be told in one glance and the peace and prosperity that had long lasted came crashing all due to a single mistake.

"I've been going through this for hours and still have yet to see where Enma fits into all of this." He thought, letting out a sigh as he looked up at the ceiling...

Those gods, long worshipped by the very humanity they had fooled to the very end refused to take accountability for the weight of their very actions. They refused to listen to the cries and pleas of their very people.

Their pride rid them of all empathy left within them, and in the end, they decided to let humanity perish because they weren't worth saving. Their endless suffering continued but humanity never ceased crying to them for mercy.

That was until Raijin, the god of lightning and thunder decided to descend. He gave the people a choice, a chance to survive if they would heed his words.

Some questioned his actions, some stayed through to their earlier while the rest decided to take a gamble and serve as he said. The city of Raijin cho was built and the people lived in peace and prosperity once more.

The rest of the continent was split into chaos and in the end, the gods decided that it would be best to take matters into their own hands just as Raijin had done.

Many cities were built, and nations were made, peace reigned once more, but the people could never have been more divided. Their belief in every god was abolished and all now idolized the one they believed to have saved them from anguish.

This was not what they had wished for and never what they would want. These humans enacted walls to keep the others away and insulted many gods because they believed they were now safe from all distress.

They were given the greatest things one could wish for, but never truly appreciated it. How dare they speak of the heavenly rulers in such manners, they deserved to die for such heinous crimes.

For all it was worth, they were made to atone with their lives and the people, unbeknownst to them of what they had done wrong began asking for forgiveness once more.

They began worshipping the other gods as they had been asked and after a year, the disciples were chosen once again. But it didn't mean the people had been forgiven.

They still had to atone for what they had done and not all of them had to die this time. This was the only show of kindness they administered and the very reason why they chose the disciples.

They were afraid the people would retaliate and due to this, the cycle of oppression continued but with each to its own. Though they may have continued to worship other gods, that long cycle of resentment continued.

The gods now forced upon the people their own set of laws to be enforced by their own select few disciples and those who served well grew stronger with power. Until it began getting out of hand.

Truly, dabbling in human principles was one thing they should have all avoided. It was plague so poisoning you couldn't escape it as it affected you. They had a taste of the mortal realm and unleashed their profound chaos on the world they had come to create.

The monsters they created unleashed nothing but havoc and grave chaos upon the people and I took it upon myself to bring a stop to it all. I stole the powers they bestowed upon their disciples one by one, and with it created an all-powerful being.

A human possessing the powers of all the gods reaches a state of divinity that the gods could only wish to attain. And with his aid, we vanquished the earlier gods and had new ones born amidst all the chaos.

From the heavens, he administered his divine rule, and I stood at his right hand, making sure that all his laws were obeyed down to the last bit. Truly, peace had been achieved once more, and I could never have been more proud of myself.

But I never once thought of the consequences of my actions myself, our powers were far too distant just as our views. With his newfound powers, he dabbled in forbidden arts and went as far as sacrificing human lives, starting with his own family.

He had countless souls offered and devoured the leylines of our world. The universal gates were breached, and he began traveling through the dimensions seeking nothing but more power, power enough to topple every last multiverse that could possibly exist.

And now, for the first time after his millennium of madness, he stumbled upon a world that possessed no ley lines. But his greed would not let him, he wanted to have it all for himself even if it meant bringing chaos to the very world that brought him to existence.

Ren Fujiboma is the one who possesses the leylines of the seventy-fourth universe, and believe me, Hanzo will search every end of the universe just to find him. You must find him before he does and put an end to all of this.
