Jaune woke up the next morning with a tired expression. He thought what he had encountered the other day.
"Was it a bear, a lion?" No, it felt more like a human. "Was it a humanoid?" He wasn't so sure, but it was the feeling.
He then ate his short breakfast he made by skewing mushrooms on burning charcoal. Then, he collected as many sticks and stones as possible, made arrows and two slings, knives, axes, and prepared leather armour to cover where he needed it. He then practiced his slinging skills outside and archery skills, practicing until he hit every six targets within one minute and each projectiles hit deep into them. He had to be prepared if these humans are hostile, otherwise he would be eaten by cannibals.
While practicing he thought of a good idea. Why not hunt one of them down and study what it was. Maybe he could study the language and know what existed around here.
Thinking this wasa good idea, he gathered his gear; a tent, quiver with arrows and a bow, bag with his two slings and smooth stones, his two knives, his axe, some dried food, a small pot, a cup, and his fire kit, namely a firebow and firesticks. He then set out into the forest, praying that his crude home will not be destroyed.
He walked through the forest for a whole day sitting down to take short rests at a time. While he sat and took short breaks he made some tiny crafts like a book made of clay like those used during the Roman times. He also made some toys that he could entertain himself. For example, like a stick that was the shape of a gun. He played with it while he traveled through the forest, aiming and pretending to shoot at the animals and birds flying.
But he stopped as he neared the edge of the forest. He sat down and took a rest to prepare for the night and prepared his tent. He wrote down in his clay book, "Stopped to prepare for nightfall. No humanoid in sight." He looked from the direction from where he came from and looked at the sun. He then wrote, "Went east from nine o'clock to four o'clock in the afternoon. I have traveled for at least 15 miles." He ended in his clay notebook.
Suddenly he heard a rustling of the bushes. He grabbed his bow and an arrow. He then aimed at the bushes at his back. He then surprised to see a medieval stone well, with a simple wheel and axle design. By the well was a small girl, most probably eighteen years old, that was carrying a bucket filled with water. She had dark brown hair and had beautiful blue eyes. She wore clothing similar to the middle-class of the medieval era. She had a cute expression in her face and had whote skin similar to those medieval Europeans.
Jaune was surpised. He did not expect to find a human, especially a girl, on his first day of finding humans. He wanted to kidnap this girl and try to understand her language or stuff like that but he decided not to since it was a very bad decision especially since it was a girl with a high intellect. He decided to strike up a coversation with her. Looking at the floor and found a stick beside him. He smiled and planned to step on it to get her attention. He hoped he could accidentally fall to cause her to come help.
But before he could step on the stick, he heard a crack. Three men came out of the bushes and surrounded the little woman. Two of them held her hands tight while the other one spoke out, "What a fine specimen we have here for our fun tonight." He said with a grin. "Maybe she can please us well."
"Please, let go of me." The little girl pleaded. "Please, I beg you--."
She was then slapped by her right cheek, stopping the next words from leaving her lips.
"Shut up." The man replied harshly. He then turned to his companions and said. "Let's have some fun." They all agreed and one of them threw the little girl to the ground. The little girl struggled with the man. The other then took out a knife and smiled with mischief.
"This is bad and unexpected." Jaune thought to himself knowing what they were going to do. "I have to do something before they rape her."
It was unexpected for two things; one, the men that jumped out of nowhere; and two, they spoke English. It was surpising especially since he could understand what they were speaking. Looks like that idea will stick in every fantasy or sci-fi story.
He had to think fast, save her or no. He took his bow and pulled the strings. He aimed at the one of the men at his legs and released the stings. The arrow flew straight at his intended target at 219 kilometers per hour. The crude stone arrow hit the leg right on and the man fell to the ground, clutching his right leg tight and screamed.
"What!?" The one holding the knife siad in confusion. Jaune then went out of the bushes with his knife and hatchet. He swung his hatchet at the one holding the girl and struck his head hard, letting him fall to the ground. The man rolled and groaned as he felt a pain feeling like being smashed by a hammer. The man with the knife then dashed at Jaune with his knife. The knife in his hands was an iron knife, way more better and more durable than stone but we all know that Jaune is a skilled fighter and knows how to make his disadvantage an advantage. So while the man thrust towards Jaune he moved aside to dodge and caught the knife on his hands and swiftfully stabbed the man on his right leg. The man then stumbled to the ground. He tried getting up but as he turned around he saw the stone axe struck his face that sent him flyinh towards his companions. He tried getting up but could not after a few tries. He looked up and said to Jaune. "You fool. Do you know who you are messing with?" He asked Jaune. "Who do you think you are?" He said as he finally stood up along with his companions.
Jaune stared at him with fiery eyes. He gripped his axe, ready for another round.
"Answer us!" The man yelled. Without his reply they all dashed forward, armed with a rock, a stave, and an iron knife. The man with the stave attacked first, swinging it towards Jaune's head. Jaune dodged the swing and thrust his knife into the man's chest. The other man threw a rock at him, but Jauned also dodged this attack and threw his axe towards him, striking his forehead and sending him also to the ground. The man with the knife also dashed towards him but he was struck in the head by the axe before he could cut deep into Jaune's leather armour. All the men fell down, not having another chance to fight him. They all got up and ran as fast as they can into the forest, leaving the girl and Jaune alone.
Jaune sighed in relief. He had fended of against rapists. He turned around to help the woman but she shutterd in fear of him thinking he would harm her.
"Hello." He said. "Do not be afraid. I won't hurt you. Are you alright?" He asked. "Come on, let's get you up." He said as he assisted the trembling little girl. "Can you tell me your name? It could help me a bit."
"Maeve." She replied still trembling from the fear. "I am alright."
Jaune calmly held her up. He got his clay cup and got a little water from the bucket and gave the cup to her. The girl accepted the cup and graciously replied, "Thank you."
"Now," Jaune continued speaking. "Can you tell me were you are from? Do you have a family? Can you tell me were you live?" The little girl replied. "I am from Raveloe, a city of the Kingdom of Valenca. I have a family in the middle of the city by the nothern side in front of the east gate." She asked Jaune. "Can you follow me back home. I do not want to be attacked by those bandits again."
Jaune thought for a moment. He discerned his counterpart's words. "Raveloe, like in the old British story." He said to himself. "I have to be prepared if this woman is an accomplice." Though it was highly unlikely that it coulf happened, there was a chance that the girl was hired so that he could be robbed so he had to be prepared.
It really was his habit of preparing for anything, especially if there was any chance he could be decieved. But in any case, he loaded his gear, the girl holding her bucket, and they both set off going to her home in Raveloe.
