Chapter 12 - (12) On the Other Hand

"Sir? Sir!" Barret followed me as I paced around the house, shaking my head deep in thought.

"It- it just doesn't make any sense, where did she go?"

"But sir that's- I am certain she's heard of the news by now. That... that the king has declared war against the Evil queen."

Hearing his words made me worry more. Had they already caught her? Was she even alive anymore?

Barret to clear his throat, hoping to reassure me. "Lady Victoria as probably just clearing her mind, is it... necessary to worry so much?"

I remembered something because of his words...I was the only one aware of who "Victoria" was. my fears got worse, enveloping me. Does this mean, the king and princess will be after me next?

"Servants, prepare a horse for me." I said loudly. One bowed curtly, rushing off to the stables. Barret followed me to the door, trying to stop me.

"B-But sir! Going out at this time is strictly-"

"-I must find her before the king does! There is no other choice."

I turned towards him.

"If she comes back while I'm out, tell her to stay here, don't let her come and look for me."

Barret's face was conflicted, but he still bowed.

"Yes, Sir."

With a nod, I quickly turned, walking in the direction of the stables.

"Sir, your horse has been prepared."

"I'm leaving. Should soldiers come by while I am away, tell them I visit my parents on the countryside. There is no need to worry anyone."

"Yes, Sir."

"So tell me, who are you?" I sat on my cultivation stone, the mysterious person sat behind me, currently cleaning my bloodstream of the poison.

"You truly don't recognize me? Evil queen, isn't that a bit too harsh?"

I narrowed my eyes. "What are you talking about?"

"We were once close friends of course! Do you truly not remember me?"

"You..." I glanced at the man behind me. His blue eyes sparkled with hope. ".... I don't know who you are."

"E-Eh? You're being serious?"

"Tch. Hurry up and say or don't. I'm loosing interest already."

"I'm Daniel! From the battlefield six years ago!"

"What?" My eyes widened. "If you are from- how do you remember everything?"

"The Princess of the crystal shard assumed the spell worked because those close to her had little memory. However, the more you interact with the truth, the more the spell wears off. The Princess was unable to stop everyone from fully forgetting what took place during the war." He explained.

"Then that means there are more people like you, that remember everything?"

He shook his head.

"The power of the crystal shard is indeed powerful. Apart from me, there are only about five others that know the full truth of what took place. At least, people that I know."

I went quiet, deep in thought.

'If that's the case... then there is a chance everyday civilians remember parts of the truth as well, they simply say nothing to not face the queen and royal military.'

"I see.." my hands moved on autopilot, preforming a healing technique.

Daniel quickly copied.

My eyebrows raised. "These techniques, when did you learn them?"

He laughed sheepishly. "Over the course of the six years, much has changed, I'm sure you know. The solaria kingdom is not the only kingdom facing internal conflicts."

"What does this have to do with anything?"

"The state of peace between kingdoms is dying, Evil Queen. With your return, there is a high chance you will be blamed, regardless of if you've interfered or not." He explained.

A snort left my lips. My eyes darkened. "But of course. It is only part of human nature to do such a thing, isn't it. But the real question is,"

"Hm?"

I paused. "Are you the one who summoned me?"

"Eh? No no, I don't have nearly enough power to do such a thing."

My technique shifted subtly. "You said you know why I was brought back. Did you lie?"

"Of course not! Truly, you were brought back to kill the Queen!"

I didn't respond. In fact, many things about this situation was weird. "You only approached me when I was poisoned, proving that you have been watching me. Six years ago, If you were a part of the royal military, why weren't you rewarded like everyone else?"

"E-Elodie! You really are skeptical of me-"

"The technique you are using is only a suppressing technique. Did you know that?"

His hands stopped moving. I continued my own, preforming a different technique. "Y-You're skills have much improved, Elodie."

He seemed embarrassed to be caught onto so quickly. Or perhaps it was all part of his plan.

"Tell me why you are hiding somethings." I ordered. "And be quick, I can't guarantee your life if you aren't."

"I-I seriously didn't know! Elodie, are you truly going to kill me?"

"Want to bet?"

"Y-You!" His eyes widened in shock, but he sighed.

"Now that I think about it, who is the Queen that I'm supposed to, kill? Or is it that... you don't know anything about it?"

He didn't answer, confirming my guess.

"I-" Daniel put his head down in embarrassment. "The voice simply told me to find you and share that message. I don't know who the Queen-"

"-A voice?" I interrupted. "Then... the voice I heard upon my resurrection, it talks to others as well?"

"E-Eh? So you've heard the voice as well, yes? That means, you cannot say I am lying."

"They're are plot holes in your story, only the future will tell if I should kill you or not."

"D-Don't say that so casually!"

My hands flowed in a circle, getting smaller as I cupped my hands in one another, driving them back into my chest.

"Such a pesky poison to deal with.. tch." I choked out dark blood. Taking a gasp of air.

My hands moved again, this time, creating resistance cells in my body.

Once I was finished, I took a deep breath. The cold air around me grew warm as I absorbed energy from around me.

"So this.. is the power of a emerald witch.." Daniel exclaimed quietly.

After several seconds I finally stood up, my cultivation stone vanishing.

"I was reborn to complete a mission with no further explanation." I sighed, "regardless, I suppose the natural course of events will reveal to me what to do."

"...Eh? So you're just going to wait? The Princess is already looking for the perpetrator to who poisoned the 2nd prince."

"You believe I pulled such a petty trick just to get back at him? In fact-"

I scoffed lightly.

"The real perpetrator was quite bold and dared to poison me as well. It seems I have a visit to make."

"You're leaving? But it's-"

"We will surely meet again. Only if there is an emergency, go to General Adam's home and report to him the issue. Goodbye now."

I waved my arm, in an instant my surroundings changed. As well as my outfit. I walked through the corridor with a smile. Arriving at the door of the Second Prince's concubine.
