A few days passed quickly with most students and professors who returned getting settled back into the castle. Besides the first years and a few second year students, most got back into the swing of going to classes again.
"Lemon drop."
Standing before a gargoyle, Felix watched as the statue before him shifted over a little. It revealed a revolving staircase, which he began to climb. Where in a few moments, he stood before a wooden door which he knocked a couple times.
The door slowly creaked open revealing the office inside. Trinkets whiled, vibrant colors filled his eyes and an old man in clashing colors greeted him. The silver beard was long enough to reach his waist and moved slightly as he munched on candy.
"Good morning, Felix." Albus Dumbledore said.
"Good morning." Felix replied in turn. "So what is the first lesson?"
Felix didn't believe or think of beginning the process right now, since one needed to keep a mandrake leaf in one mouth for a month. It has to be done from one full moon to another and it wasn't a full moon today.
"Why don't we begin with you telling me what you know about the process of Animagus." Dumbledore replied. "Then we can continue from there."
Felix gave a slightly bored look, but still began explaining all he knew about it. He also popped in his own ideas and alternate ways to achieve the transformation. During the last couple years, he had looked into it a couple times.
By the time he finished, nearly an hour had passed. While it can be summarized, there was quite a bit of details one needs to know and with his own ideas. Well, it took some time to finish saying them all.
"Well, I think it safe to say you have quite the understanding of the animagus transformation." Dumbledore said. "Probably enough to write a few books."
Felix looked away at the mention of books. He didn't mind writing books, but writing nearly ten books a school year is very taxing. Not to mention writing books he didn't really feel like writing since they weren't fun when it was not fitting to his project or whims.
"Well, our time is running short for this lesson. Why don't we pick this up next week? I got an understanding of your knowledge of animagus now. So we can begin next time."
"Alright." Felix just nodded.
This was understandable since Dumbledore is a very busy person, so getting him to take time out of his schedule once a week is quite lucky.
--
After his first lesson or well, more like a meeting with Dumbledore. Felix left the Headmaster Office and went to find John. They were going to meet up and hit the library to begin their grand mission of crafting a Green Lantern Ring.
He naturally didn't have much hope in the library providing much help, but it should hold a bit that they could build off of. While he could write down the entire building process by peeking into the Paths. Breaking down the process to fully understand it is still necessary.
One shouldn't play with magic they don't fully understand.
History is full of those that did and the lessons they teach are hard to forget. They are lucky if nothing happens, while most lose limbs or even their life. Now they are attempting to build what could be considered one of the most powerful items in the universe.
While Felix and John offered Angel to join them in this project. She shook her head saying she was going to be busy this year studying dueling with Flitwick in the dueling club. It seems that she plans to enter a dueling competition during the summer and she wants to spend most of this year preparing for it.
In other words, Felix and John need to split some more time off to help her practice. Though she did wish them luck building their toy.
'I don't know about calling one of the strongest items a toy.' Felix smiled to himself when he heard her say that.
"Felix, over here." John softly called out to him.
John had already collected a couple books from the shelves about willpower and spells that rely heavily on it. This was Felix's idea since the ring was powered by willpower and thus thought it was a good place to start.
While walking over, he also found a gloomy Severus Snape. Unlike the previous times, Felix didn't stop. They had broken off the agreement last year and since he chose to take the bitter path, Felix had decided to let him be.
"What did you find?" Felix whispered to John.
"I found a couple spells that are similar to what we want. One being the Patonous Charm since it takes a great deal of will power to mix with happiness. While not exactly what we want it is basically an animal formed from willpower." John answered.
"Nothing is going to be what we want, but it does give us a starting point." Felix replied.
"I also found a couple other spells that basically construct magic into shapes. These spells are said to be difficult so many don't learn about them. I thought they might be of some use, but most of the books on them are in the restricted section." John said.
"Well, let's start with these and I will get them later." Felix replied.
"Ok." John nodded in agreement.
They had enough books currently and even if Felix got them from the restricted section it wouldn't make much of a difference. They probably only be able to skim through them so it would be a waste of time to grab them now.
--
Time began to slip away as time quickly passed with them building a basic framework for constructs made from will power. While it wasn't super impressive, but doing it in a few hours, Felix felt it was.
"Felix, do you actually think we can make this?" John asked. "This feels much more complicated than you have ever made."
"I don't see why not. Magic is about exploring and if we don't try, how can we know if it is possible or not?" Felix replied with a shrug. "Besides, we have a goal to strive towards, so what if we need to discover and push the limits of magic that few explored before us?"
"I guess that is true." John agreed. "It's just going to be a lot of work."
"What gave the impression that any magic project isn't a lot of work."
Felix just gave his friend a strange look. His two friends seem to have this misconception quite a bit. It's not like all the knowledge just appears out of nowhere.
John just shrugged.
"Well, whatever, it's nearly time for dinner. If we don't go, Angel will scold you." John changed the topic.
"Why me?" Felix grumbled.
--
After making their way to the Great Hall, they found Angel saving a couple seats around her for them. Taking their seats, Felix smiled at her.
"So how did the club meeting go?"
"It…was pretty boring truth be told." Angel said honestly. "Flitwick basically just covered dueling rules and we all had a mock duel. The others didn't seem that great at dueling."
"Might explain why there is rumor that Flitwick is planning to disband this club." John added.
"For once, a rumor might hold most of the truth." Angel nodded in agreement.
"So what do you think is on the menu for dessert?" Felix changed topics.
