Chapter 136 - Chapter 136: Treachery (1)

King Gu stood from his throne with a conniving smile. In perfect Bulgartic (English) the king began speaking straight towards Larys. "That was rather bold of you Larys Cassell. (Chuckle) I guess I should reward you for being brave. I do have information about your sunken ships and I will happily tell you.

He took a moment to pause and build suspense. Even the local courtesans present were beginning to feel anxious. None of them had any idea what was going on, especially when their king was speaking another language so fluently.

Larys and his men could not contain their shock. Some of them began to a feeling urging them to get out of there. When King Gu finally spoke, all of the delegation members began to panic.

"To tell you the truth I know a lot about your sunken ships. How could I not? It was I who gave the order to sink them, and my son San-Tong did exactly that. And soon he will sink the ships that carried you to this continent,"

As soon as his words echoed through the throne room, dozens of soldiers charged in a surround the delegation. They were weaponless due to them having their muskets confiscated from them when entering the throne room.

"What is the meaning of this?! We are emissaries! Regardless of your feelings towards our realm, harming emissaries is wrong. The world will despise your kingdom if anything happens to us," Larys cried out in anger.

All King Gu could do was smirk amusedly. He theatrically descended the throne with a wicked grin on his face. His son Gu Lintian drew his sword and offered it to him while bowing his head. With a slight nod, Gu Tian drew his son's lavishly looking sabre from its scabbard.

Looking around the around the room, King Gu Tian said nothing. All he did was slash his sabre downwards. This was a signal for his soldiers to begin slaughtering the Luxenberg delegation members.

The Gu soldiers rushed in with bayonets attached to their muskets. The Royal Guard soldiers of Luxenberg were at a severe disadvantage. Some of them perished quickly as they could not stop the bayonets from ripping into their vital areas.

Captain Matthias was able to dodge one oncoming bayonet and deliver a devastating kidney punch to his aggressor. Momentarily, the Gu soldier dropped his musket. Seizing an opportunity, Captain Matthias dived for the musket and assertively thrusted the bayonet into the Gu soldier's throat.

The Royal Guard Captain was not the only one to secure a weapon, a few of the other Luxenberg men managed to defeat their initial attacker and procure a weapon. This gave the men some hope, there was now a sliver of a chance that they could hold out and make it back to warn their comrades at the inn.

Swarms of Gu soldiers now rushed the surrounded Luxenberg delegation. Larys and Ernst were encircled by 5 of the remaining soldiers that came with them, one of which was Captain Matthias.

Valiantly, the Luxenberg soldiers tried to repel their attacker, albeit they could not do a lot in the face of insurmountable odds. They had managed to kill a dozen or more Gu soldiers before one of the Royal Guard soldiers received multiple stab wounds from bayonets.

This would be the common fate for the remainder of the delegation. The overwhelming tide of Gu soldiers was too much to withstand. In quick succession, 3 more Luxenberg soldiers met their demise. All that remained was Captain Matthias protecting Larys Cassell and Ernst Augustine.

"Stand behind me, gentlemen!" Shouted Captain Matthias as tried to manoeuvre them into a corner of the throne room. The Royal Guard Captain fought vigorously slaying any Gu soldier who came close. He had managed to rack up a kill count of 14 so far.

King Gu Tian could only stand there, almost admiring the valiant last stand of Captain Matthias, however, he was growing tired of the pitiful effort of his soldiers. "Stetson, finish them off bring me Larys Cassell's head," King Gu ordered while still speaking Bulgartic.

Stetson confidently nodded and drew out his own sabre. This was a sabre that was a reminder of his home, his family and ultimately his shameful defeat. He leisurely made his way from the base of the throne to where Captain Matthias was.

At this point fatigue was starting to kick in for Captain Matthias, he had been fighting desperately to protect the King's uncle and their interpreter. He had sustained multiple lacerations on his body, yet his sheer willpower kept him on his feet fighting.

"You have fought well soldier, but this is where you shall meet your end. I will take great satisfaction in killing you and Victor Luxenberg's uncle." Stetson said coldly with a scarily indifferent expression

Stetson was quick to pounce unleashing a chain of slashes with his sabre. Captain Matthias did his best to evade or block the attacks. He managed to dodge the first two slashes before using the musket to block a downward slash near his head, however, he was distracted and could not react quick enough to stop Stetson from delivering a low kick to his leg.

This ultimately threw off Captain Matthias's balance and as a result Stetson quickly capitalised on his advantage and struck a mighty blow across the Royal Guard Captain's chest. A loud grunt came out of Captain Matthias as he tried to maintain his composure and fight Stetson.

The wound he had received was brutal, he was barely hanging on by a thread. His body's strength began to fade, so much so that he could not Stetson from driving his sabre deep into his body, piercing his heart.

Captain Matthias began to lose the light from his eyes as his numb body dropped to the cold hard floor. Larys Cassell who had been petrified due to the situation had finally snapped out of it and rushed to grab a weapon while Stetson was momentarily distracted.

It was a decent attempt but to no avail. Stetson effortlessly swung his sabre and took Larys's head clean off. No theatrics or grand last stand, just a simple swing of his sabre. Then in an instant Stetson butchered Ernst while he was cowering in fear. It was kind of anti-climatic, yet all the spectating courtesans were still in shock, trying to process the carnage that had just unfolded.

None of them could muster to condone or even question what just happened. All they could do was cower and lower their heads. There was no way ministers with no combat experience could question or let alone stand up to their King's wild decision.

While the courtesans remained silent, the sound of clapping reverberated around the throne room. "Well done Stetson, very well done indeed. Perhaps I should remove you as a commander and assign you as my bodyguard." King Gu jested while speaking in Simbarnese (Mandarin).

Stetson offered a small smile and nod at his King's remarks. The Luxenberg delegation was taken care of, now all that remained were their guards back at the inn and their ships back at Guangdong.
