Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

✨ Samuel's POV✨

---

To say I'm over the moon would be an understatement. I'm so ridiculously happy right now that I can't even pretend to act normal. She still says she hasn't forgiven me, but I know my kitten—yeah, My kitten. She can't stay mad forever. Not at me. Not when I can't breathe right without her.

I try to wipe the smug smile off my face, but it's hopeless. My mind drifts back to the day we gave each other nicknames—or well, I gave us nicknames. She was a brat about it, of course as always.

---

Flashback

"Hey, you. Little girl."

"I am not little," she huffed.

"You are."

"I am not!"

"Whatever… Angel."

"What?"

"Let's give ourselves nicknames."

"Why should we do that?"

"So we can have special names for each other, dummy."

"First of all, I'm not a dummy—I'm brighter than you, literally and academically. And second, I don't want special names with you."

"Why are you like this?" I frowned

"Like what?"

"THIS!"

"Ask nicely, and I'll consider it."

"Fine. Can you please, pretty please let us give each other nicknames?"

"Hmmmm… no."

"Oh, come on!"

"Fine, fine. What would you call me?"

"I think your feisty attitude is kind of like a kitten when provoked… so, I'm thinking kitten."

"WHAT? Kittens are cute and I have nothing against them, but—"

"But nothing."

"Ugh. Fine."

"And what nickname do you think is suitable for my handsome self?"

"You're a narcissistic idiot."

"Just answer me."

"I can't call you a dog even though you act like one somtimes… and I call call you a tortoise—even though you're slow. And I definitely can't call you a goat cause they stink… so I think I'll just go with Sammy."

"That's good. I love it."

---

End of flashback.

Whistling to myself, I step out of the car and walk toward the house. Ugh. I'm tired. Groaning as I pull out my phone:

> One new message from Alex

Hey Sam, have you heard the latest news?

Me: No, I haven't.

Alex: I bet you want to know.

Me: No, I don't.

Alex: Why are you like this?

Me: You know I'm not a fan of gossip and all that shit.

---

"Mum!" I call out as I walk into the house

She turns from the kitchen. "How are you?"

"Very fine, thank you."

"How was school today, darling?"

"Fantastic."

"Oh? For you to say school was fantastic, something good must have happened. What could it be?"

"Take a guess."

"Angel stopped ignoring you?"

I grin widely not able to stop myself. "Yup. We reached a consensual agreement."

She laughs. "That's nice."

"I'm going to freshen up. I'll be down for dinner."

"Okay, but don't take forever."

"Love you!"

---

Back in my room, Alex's messages are still there.

> I know, but you really have to hear this.

Fine. I call him.

Ring. Ring.

"Hey, man. What do you have to say?"

"Bro, you won't believe what I heard from a little birdie."

"Surprise me."

Clears throat dramatically "Apparently, after you left Elizabeth in the hallway, Michael walked up to her and started hitting on her."

I grit my teeth. "Doesn't he know she's taken?"

"Maybe he didn't. Or maybe he did and just didn't care. But apparently… she was leading him on."

"You're joking."

"Swear I'm not."

"Where did you hear this crap from?"

"Israel."

My stomach dropped "What?!"

"Yeah, and you know he wouldn't lie. That's her brother."

My voice shakes. "Thanks, man. I'll talk to you later."

"Stay safe. Don't do anything dumb."

"F*ck off."

"But seriously…I'm so curious and in sure everyone is, why'd you take her back the first time?"

"I guess… I still loved her. Don't judge me. I didn't think she'd leave me for him."

"But she did. And now she might do it again."

"I know" I groan.

"You know you deserve better, right?"

"I know… but I don't see anyone better around me."

"Excuse me?! What's Angel then?! If I were you, I'd just ask her out."

"Are you nuts? She's my best friend. Drop those dumb ideas."

"Exactly—she knows you. That makes it better. What else do you need?"

"Stop confusing me. Bye."

"Fine, but please… don't dwell on that cheating b*tch."

"Don't call her that," I say out of habit.

"Are you stupid?! You're still defending her?"

"Whatever. Bye."

"Stay cool headed!"

---

"Samuel, dinner's ready!" My mum's voice brings me out of my reverie

"I'm coming, Mum!"

Trying not to overthink, I head downstairs and push it all aside. During dinner, I casually ask, "Is Dad coming home tonight? It's late."

"No, he's working overtime tonight."

"Oh, okay." I pause slightly "You sure y'all didn't fight or something?"

"No, we didn't"

"Okay"

---

Later that night

I'm lying in bed, sleep miles away. Sighing, I grab my phone and text Angel.

> Me: Hey you

Kitten: What?

Me: Nothing

Kitten: And I have a name and it's not "hey you"

Me: I know, kitten

Kitten: I told you to stop calling me that

Me: I know, but when have i ever listened to you?

Kitten: Since never

Me: Good to have you know that

Kitten: Good night

Me: What, why?

Kitten: I have school tomorrow

Me: We both know we don't have to go

Kitten: I know

Me: Let's go out instead

Kitten: Where?

Me: Ice cream

Kitten: What if i don't want to?

Me: Oh, you will

Kitten: Why?

Me: Because you love ice cream. and you love me too

Kitten: I think you misunderstood the meaning of love, mister.

Me: Whatever. you know it's true

Kitten: Fine, i'll go. You're such a bad influence on me

Me: You love it

Kitten: Good night

Me: Night, be ready by twelve. I'll pick you up

Kitten: Okay.

Me: See you tomorrow

---

I turn off my phone and close my eyes.

And this time… I fall asleep easily.

Smiling.

No ex-girlfriend, no drama, just me, my best friend, and ice cream plans.
