Chapter 22 - What If day of apocalypse

I was invited to mom's new apartment. Batou came and escorted me there which made travel that much easier. The sniffer dogs refused to bark but instead they would show me some sort of respect. Which the owners took to saying that I was a dog person. Batou was grinning as he drove to the apartment. Shaw was there and so were his buddies. He gave me a once over and commented about my health. Mom proudly declared that the new test drugs that the doctor had recommended was the reason I was on the mend. She asked me when I was getting a refill. I said that uncle J sent my prescription last week so I don't have to worry till next month. The drug company was creating limited doses and they were sending it out in controlled amounts. So depending on my results they might up or lower the dosage. Shaw asked me if I would consider joining the army. I smiled, "Listen brother I am still trying to figure out the configuration of words that would convince you that my answer is no till judgement day." He made a face and was about to say something but mom shook her head. She defended me, "Your sister has the right to choose what to do with her life. If she wants to spend it enjoying and exploring her new found health let her. She is still a child so let her choose what she wants to do with the rest of her life. Let's not forget that she finds your occupation to be cruel and inhumane." I decided to change the subject, "Yesterday I was allowed to go shopping for basic things and some guy was talking about how the vaccine was turning people into zombies. They said that these things only eat healthy which means I have nothing to worry about because Uncle J ran a few samples of my blood and saw that my illness went from active to barely there. So if these things really do exist. They are going to leave me alone as I am considered inedible. On the bright side if these beasties come calling you can always come to my school. It has the thickest walls the strongest doors and we can barricade ourselves there forever."

Mom froze for a moment before she smiled, "That's turning a frown upside down." Shaw was about to say something when an alarm blared. Mom's phone blared an alarm demanding urgency. I quietly stuck my head out of the window. I saw my eyes use telescopic mode to zoom in on a group of crazy people jump on people and eat them. I told mom that I am going back to school since my friends are probably concerned. Mom and Shaw waved me off as they went to their respective vehicles. I on the other hand walked till I reached the camera blindspot before I zipped back to the academy. I asked the girls to pack their essentials and call their relatives as the zombies have made their way to the city and have started munching on the locals. They immediately called their families and told them to get here as quickly as possible. I zipped out and collected Irene and Sonja's family. They were in the dorm room in no time. The others couldn't ask because they were worried that I would be imprisoned but regardless I took a deep breath and vanished. It is better to beg for forgiveness than to seek permission. I got them out in opportune time so in exchange they promised to keep my identity a secret. I sat down to sense that whatever was left of the police force was coming and so were the army. A few civilians as well. The gatekeeper allowed the law enforcer in but the others had no choice but to turn around and head towards the exits.

The next morning the seniors had a few choice words to say. Most wanting answers to why the law enforce was here of all places. I said that the munchers were here so they came here as refuge and part of the protection detail. These guys were skeptical till they opened their cellphone to check social media. They got to see the last moments of their heroes. A few moments of silence before heading to the military tent to give them a piece of mind. A few suggested to blow these people to smithereens. No one volunteered to be bait. I saw mom, Batou and Shaw huddled together talking about how to transport everyone to safety. The headmistress explained that she has contacted Winter the sister school to this secluded madhouse. She said that the security was already arranging the safest path. The students will be moved tomorrow. I quietly slipped out to tell the gang to pack only the essentials. I told them to wait as I go and collect some zombie apocalypse gear. I gave Irene instructions to call me if anyone is doing any sort of role call. I had the others on the lookout. I opened the window and flew towards the city. I made sure to make myself invisible. As I flew I saw drones scanning the place for survivors. There was only one place that had supplies for zombie apocalypse. So I got there to see that the store owner was already an undead monster munching on a corpse. I simply looked around till I found a huge box. I took the slip that I had received a few days ago and had it stamped. I opened the box and systemically carried it back to school. It took me five trips. The girls were curious as they divided the bleach bottle and MREs between the girls. I slipped out to collect the first aid kit. I stopped to collect a few antibiotics and extra gauze. The next stop was to collect batteries and thick winter coats. I intentionally did a detour and got some tasers and snagged a few walkie-talkies along with the coats. I quietly snuck back in and was sorting what goes with who when my brother came to check in on me. Batou and mom were not far away either.

They watched as we distributed MREs, gloves, walkie talkies and other stuff. While their backpacks were regular size. Mine was on the larger end of the spectrum. I looked around and saw the girls were trying to figure out who gets the first-aid kit. I told them to divide the stuff amongst ourselves in case the one bag goes missing. We can still administer medical aid. I told them to pack the three pairs of clothes for the day and for the night. A few undies, sanitary pads and the first aid kit. Then goes the zombie apocalypse kit. Put the money and the socks in their shoes. I took a moment and realized that soon money will have no value. So I almost told them to ditch it. I told them to place the water bottles on one the side of the bag. The umbrella goes on the other side. Use the small pockets for snacks and other stuff. Sunglasses go on the top of their heads. Make sure to be hands free and the backpacks are light because in the case of flat tyres or other problems it is possible we will be going on foot. If it is too heavy it is likely we will wish that we were back here. I requested that they wear jogging shoes and wear clothes that are comfortable but cover the body to be safe from mosquitoes. A walkie talkie goes in their back pocket. Taser and pepper spray goes in the side pockets of their pants. Slip the coat on the strap of their backpacks until further notice. The girls started going through their wardrobe. I made it clear that the clothes they put in the backpack should be something they wouldn't go on a date or clubbing. It has to be clothes they would wear for camping I turned around to see mom and everyone staring at me weirdly. I shook my head as I started folding the rest of my clothes and started to sort my belongings into suitcases.

The girls asked which one gets the flashlights. I pulled the gear and discovered that there were only three flashlights. I told them to wait one moment as I walked back to my room and snuck out and came back with more flashlights. I came back and gave one to each and asked if they were missing anything. I told them to put the shampoo, lotion and liquid soap in small travel bottles and place them in ziplock bags. Extra shoes go in a plastic bag on the bottom of the backpack. Clothes on top of that. Then comes undies and sanitary napkins. Then comes the zombie gear and first aid kit. The toiletries and towel go on top. The rest goes into suitcases. If they have emptied the drawers they must leave it open to ensure they won't accidentally leave anything behind by mistake. I followed my own advice. I made sure to double check and moved the suitcases to the living room. The others did the same. Then everyone sat down to decide what to keep, what to throw away. I sat with my old laptop and started to search for safe routes to Winter. There were only two routes to Winter and I would never recommend one route because of the terrain. The road would destroy the tyres and walking would be painful. I am certain that walking to Winter would thin out the population significantly. I called Cain asking him to let me know what was happening. He said that he will call me in ten minutes. I sat by the window to keep a look out of trouble. I saw these beasties were slowly walking towards the gate. I told everyone if they are done since trouble has made its way to our school. A few shrieks later the girls came with binoculars. Shaw asked me how I knew and I said these creatures have a specific walk. They walk slowly and drag their legs. They don't bend their legs because they have forgotten the use of their knees. Which makes it easier to make a difference.

I called security to fill them in and they asked us to walk out in an orderly fashion. I told the girls to change their outfits and grab their go bags since it is time to leave. Everyone looked around one last time before they changed outfits. As I walked by my family was smirking at me. I rolled my eyes as I stuffed my Frankensteined laptop in my backpack before I walked towards them. Then we walked out a single file. Cain was waiting by the stairs. He was grateful for the heads up. He smirked as he saw my backpack. He asked me if I was carrying the weight of the world on my shoulder. I asked him to focus as we walked out. The others weren't pleased to see that their day just got worse. We got in our designated cars. I got in the security car with Cain and so did the girls. Mom and Batou were surprised but said nothing. I asked Cain if there was a place that he can go where these zombies won't be an issue because it is possible he will get busted. The girls asked him if he was going to Europe or Asia since it is possible infection free. He grinned as did his friends, "You seem to be less afraid than the adults." I shrugged, "Love is universal and hate is taught." He gave me a wink as we drove towards Winter. When the driver took a left turn and I almost had a heart attack. I remember yelling turn on repeat. Cain finally calmed me down to ask me what was going. I told him that the tyres will be shredded if we go in this direction. The satellite showed that the terrain is horrible. If we take that direction we are toast. I recommended a different route. But Cain said that he certain things will be ok. I extended my senses and already sensed an obstruction on the road. I mentioned it and the girls started yelling. The driver stopped and Irene shoved him out the way and asked me for directions. I kept my eyes closed and told her which way to go. Cain was impressed and so were the others. We got to our first pitstop and everyone hopped off to refresh themselves. One of seniors asked me about my bag. I told her that I overheard a conversation so I packed my stuff. He asked me politely if we were back and I said that I don't know. It is possible that we will have to call Winter home till the military blow these things to smithereens. The governor talked about moving people to the safe zones to ensure our safety. The possibility that we would be in the blast radius was highly likely. This escape was a simple solution. He asked me why I didn't tell anyone else. I said that I am used to people not taking me seriously. He gave me a nod before he went to tell everyone else.
