Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: The Aftermath

The day dragged on after the trio's disastrous attempt to impress the kendo girls. Kazuki watched as Matsuda and Motohama trudged home, shoulders slumped in defeat. Issei, however, lingered behind, still caught up in a world of his own dreams and fantasies.

Kazuki leaned against a nearby wall, a faux-concerned look on his face as Issei approached. "Hey, Issei! How did it go?" he asked, masking the anticipation bubbling beneath the surface.

Issei's face fell. "Not great. The girls totally ignored us. It was like we weren't even there." He let out a defeated sigh, his enthusiasm from the day before evaporating.

Kazuki feigned sympathy, his heart racing with excitement. "That's tough, man. But don't let it get you down. It's all about learning and improving, right?"

"Yeah, I guess," Issei replied, scratching the back of his head, looking genuinely disheartened.

"Look, remember what I told you about confidence? You've got to believe in yourself. You'll get a girl one day, trust me," Kazuki encouraged, plastering on his best supportive smile.

Issei's eyes brightened slightly, and he nodded. "Thanks, Kazuki. That pep talk really helps. You're a good friend."

Kazuki suppressed a smirk, feeling a rush of satisfaction. "That's what friends are for," he replied, his voice dripping with sincerity. Inside, he reveled in the irony. Issei had no idea how deeply he was being manipulated.

"Yeah, you're right! Thanks again!" Issei said, his spirit lifting a little as he turned to head home. "See you tomorrow!"

"Goodbye, Issei!" Kazuki called, watching him walk away. Once he was out of sight, Kazuki let his facade drop, a menacing smile creeping onto his face.

"Don't worry, Issei," he murmured to himself, relishing the thrill of his scheme. "I'll take care of everything for you." He felt a rush of power in his plan, knowing that he was steering events from behind the scenes.

Kazuki headed home, thoughts racing. Each interaction with Issei only strengthened his resolve to keep the protagonist unaware of the true nature of the game they were playing. The more Issei relied on him, the easier it would be to manipulate the narrative.

He knew the stakes were high, but that only fueled his ambition. With every small success, he could feel the path unfolding before him—a path paved with the desires of the heroines he planned to steal away.

As he arrived home, Kazuki felt exhilarated, the adrenaline of his schemes coursing through him. The chessboard was set, and he was eager to make his next move.
