Chapter 18 - Seventeen

After the joyful celebration in the celestial hall, Wei Ying and Lan Zhan finally found themselves back in their private quarters. The night sky outside was dotted with stars, shining brightly as if mirroring the happiness in their hearts. The quietness of the room contrasted the earlier excitement, bringing a serene and intimate atmosphere.

Lan Zhan gently led Wei Ying to sit down by the window. "Are you tired?" he asked softly, concern lacing his voice.

Wei Ying shook his head, eyes sparkling with joy. "How could I be tired when I'm so happy, Lan Zhan? Another baby! Can you believe it?" He couldn't help but giggle, his laughter light and full of excitement.

Lan Zhan's eyes softened as he gazed at his husband. He reached out, his fingers brushing across Wei Ying's cheek with tender affection. "You've given me so much happiness, Wei Ying. Our children, our life together... and now, another little one. I'm truly blessed."

Wei Ying's grin widened as he snuggled closer into Lan Zhan's embrace. "We're both blessed. We've come a long way to get here, haven't we?"

Lan Zhan nodded, his grip tightening protectively around Wei Ying. "We have. And I'll cherish every moment we have together, from now until eternity."

The words carried a deep promise, and Wei Ying felt his heart swell with love. He leaned in, their faces just inches apart. "Lan Zhan, I can't tell you how happy I am that we get to do this together, to raise our family, to be there for each other."

Lan Zhan's eyes darkened with emotion, the golden flecks in his irises reflecting the soft light. He closed the gap between them, capturing Wei Ying's lips in a slow, tender kiss. It was a kiss full of love, devotion, and quiet passion... a reminder of the deep connection they shared. Wei Ying responded eagerly, wrapping his arms around Lan Zhan's neck, sinking into the warmth of his husband.

When they finally broke apart, Lan Zhan's voice was a low murmur, filled with affection. "Wei Ying, let's dance."

Wei Ying blinked in surprise but then grinned playfully. "Dance? There's no music, Lan Zhan!"

Lan Zhan simply smiled and, without waiting for a response, swept Wei Ying into his arms. The two of them swayed gently, moving in perfect harmony as if they could hear music only they understood. Lan Zhan's hand rested securely on Wei Ying's waist, while the other held his hand delicately, their bodies close, warmth shared between them.

Wei Ying laughed softly as he rested his head against Lan Zhan's chest. "You really are full of surprises. I love this side of you."

"And I love every side of you," Lan Zhan whispered, his voice a caress against Wei Ying's ear.

They continued to dance slowly, the world around them fading into nothingness as they celebrated the news of their growing family in their own special way. The gentle sway of their movements spoke of promises, of a future filled with joy and love, of shared dreams and endless happiness.

As they finally stopped, Wei Ying looked up, eyes shining. "Lan Zhan, no matter what comes, I know we'll face it together, stronger than ever."

Lan Zhan leaned down, placing another kiss on Wei Ying's lips, sealing that vow. "Always, Wei Ying. Forever."

With that, they held each other close, basking in the comfort of each other's presence. The night was theirs alone, a precious moment filled with love, warmth, and the quiet celebration of a life they were building together... one that would only grow brighter with the arrival of their new child.

Ever since the news of Wei Ying's pregnancy was confirmed, Lan Zhan had been even more attentive.... borderline overprotective. Whether it was helping Wei Ying out of bed, walking beside him, or monitoring his meals, Lan Zhan was on high alert for the slightest hint of discomfort.

One morning, Wei Ying woke up to find Lan Zhan watching him closely. "Lan Zhan, why are you staring at me so seriously?" Wei Ying teased, rolling his eyes playfully.

"I'm just making sure you're comfortable," Lan Zhan replied, his gaze never wavering.

"I'm perfectly fine! You don't have to be so worried all the time," Wei Ying grumbled as he tried to get out of bed, only for Lan Zhan to immediately step forward and hold his arm.

"Careful," Lan Zhan said softly, his voice tinged with concern. "I'll help you."

Wei Ying sighed, giving in with a small smile. "Lan Zhan, I'm just a few weeks along! I'm not made of glass. I won't break if I walk or do a bit of work."

Lan Zhan only hummed in response, clearly unconvinced. "You should rest more," he suggested.

Later that day, when Wei Ying wanted to visit the market in town, Lan Zhan outright refused. "It's crowded there, and you might get tired," he said firmly.

Wei Ying crossed his arms. "Lan Zhan, I've been to much more dangerous places than a marketplace! And besides, it's just a short walk. I'm getting bored staying inside all day."

Lan Zhan's expression softened, but his determination didn't waver. "I'll go with you then," he offered.

Wei Ying knew better than to argue with Lan Zhan when he was like this, so he relented. As they walked through the bustling market, Lan Zhan stayed close, holding Wei Ying's hand tightly as if shielding him from the world. If anyone so much as bumped into Wei Ying, Lan Zhan would give them a sharp glare that made them back off immediately.

When they passed by a food stall, Wei Ying's eyes lit up. "Ooh, sugar hawthorn sticks! I haven't had those in ages!" He reached out to buy some, but Lan Zhan quickly intercepted, handing the vendor the payment himself.

Wei Ying raised an eyebrow. "Lan Zhan, you're acting like I'm going to disappear if you don't hold onto me."

Lan Zhan's serious face softened, his gaze gentle. "I just want to keep you safe."

Wei Ying's heart warmed at his husband's words. "I know you do, Lan Zhan. But don't forget, we're in this together. I'm not going anywhere, and neither are you." He squeezed Lan Zhan's hand reassuringly, leaning in to peck his cheek.

Later that evening, when they returned home, Wei Ying decided to push his luck a little more. "How about we go for a run in our wolf forms? Just a little stretch!"

Lan Zhan's eyes widened in disbelief. "No."

"But..."

"You're not running anywhere until after the baby is born," Lan Zhan cut in firmly, making Wei Ying pout.

"You're no fun, Lan Zhan! You're being too strict," Wei Ying whined, but he couldn't hide the affection in his eyes.

Lan Zhan leaned in and kissed Wei Ying's forehead gently. "I'll be as strict as I need to be if it means keeping you and our child safe."

Wei Ying huffed, but he couldn't help smiling as he snuggled closer to Lan Zhan. "Fine, I'll behave... for now."

Lan Zhan smiled back, holding him close. "Good."

Even though Wei Ying grumbled playfully throughout the day, he knew that Lan Zhan's protectiveness came from a place of deep love. And truth be told, he couldn't really complain about being spoiled by his husband's constant care and attention...especially when it was accompanied by so much tenderness.

The sun had barely risen over Cloud Recesses, casting a gentle glow across the training grounds. Lan Zhan stood in his usual spot, watching over the various training sessions with his ever-watchful eyes.

Today was special; it wasn't just about the usual drills. It was a day to train and bond with the younger generation, and Lan Zhan was looking forward to it.

Wei Ying joined him, his presence a calming contrast to Lan Zhan's stern demeanor. The children, Lan Jingyi and Lan Yu, along with Lan Sizhui, Lan Hua, and Lan Li, were gathered in a semicircle, ready to start their training under the watchful eyes of their elders.

Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng stood nearby, observing their children with pride and a touch of concern. They had grown quickly, and today would be a significant test of their skills.

Lan Zhan cleared his throat to get everyone's attention. "Today, we will focus on refining your skills and understanding the essence of discipline. Remember, training is not just about strength but about balance and control."

Lan Jingyi, ever the enthusiastic one, raised his hand. "Baba, will we be working on the new techniques you mentioned?"

Lan Xichen nodded, a smile on his face. "Yes, Jingyi. We'll start with the basic techniques and then move on to more advanced ones."

Lan Hua and Lan Li exchanged excited glances, eager to showcase their abilities. Lan Sizhui, ever calm and collected, prepared himself mentally, ready to absorb and apply the teachings.

As the training session began, Lan Qiren paired up with Lan Sizhui, guiding him through complex sword forms.

Wei Ying watched, admiring the way Lan Qiren's teaching was both strict and encouraging.

Meanwhile, Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng worked with their own children. Lan Yu and Lan Jingyi practiced their techniques, with Lan Xichen providing gentle corrections and Jiang Cheng offering a more stern approach.

Wei Ying couldn't help but chuckle as he noticed Lan Li and Lan Hua attempting to mimic their Zu Gong. "Look at them, they're trying so hard," he said, leaning closer to Lan Zhan.

Lan Zhan's eyes softened as he glanced at their children. "They have much potential. It's important they learn not just from us, but also from their own experiences."

The training continued with a series of exercises designed to test agility, strength, and strategy. The children worked in pairs, pushing each other to improve while their parents offered guidance.

At one point, Lan Li and Lan Hua, both determined to prove their abilities, attempted a coordinated move. They stumbled at first but quickly recovered, laughing as they helped each other up. Their laughter was a welcome sound amidst the seriousness of the training.

Seeing this, Lan Zhan's expression softened even more. He turned to Wei Ying with a smile. "They are growing up well."

Wei Ying's eyes sparkled with affection. "Yes, they are. And look at them... so eager and full of life. I'm proud of them."

The training session eventually came to an end, and the children gathered around their parents, looking both exhausted and exhilarated.

Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng praised their children for their efforts and progress.

Jiang Cheng approached Lan Zhan with a thoughtful look. "It's amazing how quickly they've grown. They're learning so much from you."

Lan Zhan nodded, acknowledging the compliment. "They have a natural talent and a strong will. It's our duty to guide them."

Wei Ying clapped his hands, drawing everyone's attention. "Well done, everyone! Let's have a break and enjoy some refreshments. You've all earned it."

The children cheered and headed towards the refreshments laid out nearby. Lan Zhan and Wei Ying exchanged a look of satisfaction, proud of the day's accomplishments.

As they watched their children enjoy the fruits of their labor, Lan Zhan took Wei Ying's hand in his, squeezing it gently. "This is just the beginning. They have a bright future ahead."

Wei Ying leaned closer, resting his head on Lan Zhan's shoulder. "And with you by their side, I'm sure they'll achieve great things."

The great hall of the Celestial Realm shimmered with divine light, the walls adorned with intricate designs that seemed to pulse with ancient energy. The atmosphere was both reverent and expectant as Lan Zhan, Wei Ying, and Lan Xichen with Jiang Cheng assembled before the Jade Emperor's throne.

The Jade Emperor, regal and serene, looked upon them with a warm, yet serious expression. "My beloved ones," he began, his voice echoing with authority and kindness. "I have summoned you today not for a mere visit, but to discuss an important mission."

Wei Ying stepped forward, his curiosity piqued. "What is the mission, Your Majesty?"

The Jade Emperor's gaze softened as he addressed Wei Ying and Lan Zhan. "Recently, a powerful artifact, the Celestial Heartstone, has been stolen from the Celestial Vault. It holds immense power and must be recovered before it falls into the wrong hands."

Lan Zhan's eyes narrowed slightly. "What kind of danger does this artifact pose if misused?"

The Jade Emperor's expression grew grave. "The Celestial Heartstone has the ability to manipulate time and reality itself. In the wrong hands, it could cause chaos across the realms. That is why it is imperative that we retrieve it."

Wei Ying exchanged a glance with Lan Zhan, understanding the gravity of the situation. "We will recover the artifact, Your Majesty. Do we have any leads on where it might be?"

The Jade Emperor nodded, his eyes shifting to a nearby celestial map projected in the air. "We have traced the artifact to a remote location in the Shadow Realm, a place fraught with dangers and dark forces. You will need to navigate through it and retrieve the Heartstone."

Lan Xichen, who had been quietly observing, stepped forward. "I would like to accompany you, to offer any support needed."

Jiang Cheng also voiced his support. "And I will come as well. This mission sounds too perilous to face without additional help."

The Jade Emperor smiled at their willingness. "Very well. You shall have my blessing. I will also provide you with a celestial guide, who will assist you in navigating the Shadow Realm."

From the shadows emerged a figure cloaked in shimmering light, a celestial being with an ethereal presence. "I am Lianhua, your guide," the figure announced. "I will help you reach the location of the Celestial Heartstone and ensure your safety through the trials you will face."
