Chapter 316 - Azazel's Nonsense

Chapter 316 - Azazel's Nonsense

Vali was rescued despite his grievous injuries, while two others perished at the hands of Sirzechs and Azazel.

The last remaining descendant, barely holding out against Serafall, was on the verge of defeat.

The once-aggressive Old Satan Faction had lost all morale.

The Three Factions' forces, initially caught off guard, now fought with renewed vigor, launching a counteroffensive.

Bolstered by Rias, Sona, and their allies, they steadily overwhelmed the Old Satan Faction's mages.

"What's Mahiro doing?" Sirzechs asked, landing beside Michael. He watched Mahiro's actions with curiosity, then froze in shock.

"Divine Dividing?" Michael said, stunned.

"He's not just restoring a Sacred Gear—he's fusing them," Azazel said, his eyes wide. Having deactivated his Balance Breaker, his weathered face betrayed utter disbelief.

As a Sacred Gear expert with centuries of study, Azazel understood their mechanics better than anyone present. One glance told him what Mahiro was attempting, amplifying his shock.

"This kid's insane," Azazel muttered. "I thought this generation's Red Dragon Emperor was more rational than past ones, but he's crazier than Vali—crazier than any Two Heavenly Dragons host."

"Is it that serious?" Sirzechs asked, puzzled. "Mahiro seems fine."

To onlookers, Mahiro's fusion appeared successful, with only a slight change in his armor's appearance and a noticeable surge in power.

"You haven't studied Sacred Gears in depth," Azazel explained. "What Mahiro just did was insanely risky. One misstep, and the conflicting energies of those two Sacred Gears could've torn him apart."

"Fusing Sacred Gears to create new ones has happened before, but only with low-tier Sacred Gears that don't clash in attributes," Azazel continued, his gaze fixed on Mahiro's new armor with intense curiosity.

"Divine Dividing and the Boosted Gear are opposites in every way. Fusing them is suicidal."

"The Biblical God tried merging the Two Heavenly Dragons into a single Longinus but failed," Azazel added. "If he'd succeeded, it might've surpassed even the True Longinus."

His eyes gleamed with fascination, as if beholding a masterpiece. "I need to ask this kid what it felt like. This could revolutionize my research."

"Azazel, you're about to sign a peace treaty, yet you're still chasing dangerous Sacred Gear projects?" Michael asked, his tone stern.

He knew the terrifying potential of Sacred Gears, especially Longinus, which could elevate humans to rival angels, devils, or even Satan-Class powerhouses.

"It's just a hobby," Azazel said with a sheepish grin. "Besides, with disasters looming and unknowns out there, we need some power in our hands. I'll share my findings with you, so there's no issue."

Neither Sirzechs nor Michael objected.

Meanwhile, Serafall ended her battle, dispatching the final Old Satan descendant with a flourish of "Magical Girl Finishing Flash."

Mahiro dismissed the Imperial Dragon Emperor's Armor, reverting to his normal form. Turning, he caught Azazel's awestruck stare.

"What?" Mahiro asked, raising an eyebrow.

"How did you fuse two Sacred Gears with opposing properties?" Azazel pressed. Restoring a Sacred Gear was secondary to him; given time, he could've rebuilt a weakened Divine Dividing from the fragments.

"I just did it," Mahiro said vaguely. The fusion card was a system item, and he wasn't about to reveal that.

"Just did it?" Azazel's mouth twitched, finding the answer maddeningly dismissive. "Didn't you feel anything special during the process?"

"Nope," Mahiro said, shaking his head. "It happened naturally."

Azazel's shoulders slumped, feeling Mahiro's success was pure luck, offering no replicable insight.

"What made you even think to fuse them?" Azazel asked, grasping for anything useful.

"Well," Mahiro began, improvising, "I figured since Divine Dividing and the Boosted Gear are comparable but opposing, they might create something new together. And it worked."

He offered a faint, confident smile.

"Fuck!? Like opposite attracts each other." Azazel said, intrigued.

As a long-lived fallen angel, he'd dabbled in many fields. "I experimented with fusing low-tier Sacred Gears of similar strength long ago, but it never worked."

"Maybe you didn't research it deeply enough," Mahiro said offhandedly.

"Hm. I only scratched the some mid-tier sacred gears," Azazel mused. "Looks like I need to dive deeper. This could guide my research."

Mahiro stayed silent, inwardly amused.

Fusion's success hinged on the fusion card.

He wondered if Azazel's experiments would lead to breakthroughs or just explosions.
