Upon hearing the explanation, Leon was stunned. He fell silent, as if lost in thought.
"Wait… what that middle-aged man said actually makes sense," he muttered to himself. "How did I not see it sooner?"
Come to think of it, Athena had never been truly angry with him—not even when he was romantically involved with Arshley or Luna during their time at the Imperial Palace.
She would sometimes sulk or act jealous, but it was always within reason. And Leon had always let it slide.
But when he showed interest in Zelda's painting at Elina's fortune-telling tent, Athena's reaction was noticeably different.
She seemed far more jealous and upset than usual. Leon suspected it was because Zelda was an Elf—a race separate from the three major ones: Demons, Dragons, and Humans.
Perhaps Athena feared that if he ever got into a serious relationship with Zelda, he would forget about her—and leave no space for her in his heart.
