Chapter 109 - New List

6 months more before the chaos attack.

Everything goes as planned.

The progress of the intercontinental train has already reached 50%, the path is ready, now installing the railway, waiting for the train to be done. There are two lines, beginning from Moscow, one is connected to Minsk, the other is to Kyiv, and both lines will then end in Eldario.

The industry zone is also under construction at a rapid speed, even if there is a plan to build military factories, it will only produce ammunition, light weapons and spare parts. The production of heavy equipment will still be done by factories in the rear, as building it will need a full chain of production line, from a normal metal to composite armour, it can't be done by only a few factories.

Of course, there is another unique factory, called the magic factory, where the workers in this factory will be the craftsmen of dwarves and elves. This factory is a brand-new design designed by Semyon. The core idea of it was to let the craftsmen use the least of their magic to enhance as many weapons as possible.

The mass production of the vacuum imploder also begins, for the first three months, the production is only a few tens, but after that, it will increase to at least 100 a month.

During the past few months, another millions of Red Army soldiers have entered the elf's land to assist in the building of the fortifications. As for now, 5 out of 10 lines have been finished while the fortifications on all the cities have already been done.

Chernov was now in Siberia together with Serina. After arranging all the plans, there is nothing much he can do, so he decides to put his eyes on the work of the first arcane directories.

This directory was supposed to predict the future and propose a long-term plan, but what can he do to let this directory go into function? No one in the country knows how to predict the future, except for Serina and the 'Ecliptic Veil' that she brought back from Karak. She is the only one that can be trusted to operate this device.

Thus, Chernov also serves as the head of the first arcane directory and the only personnel under this directory will be Serina.

"Aria said that the USSR have a bright future, she thinks that the KGB are retarded enough to trust his word. Mikhail Gorbachev, Boris Yeltsin, and Anatoly Chubais, they either do like what Aria said or did something unforgivable to the country so that she will remember these name. So, tell me what have you all seen in the original future?"

Chernov looked at the star crystal in front of him. However, Serina shakes his head.

"I don't know either, the image is too messy, I can't remember many of the details, I can only feel the feeling of the soldiers. It was a sense of despair, the kind of feeling that people can't see or feel any hope in the future."

"Sense of despair, that means the future is terrible. Something has to be done to stop it." Cherov muttered to himself.

"We will do another test, this time, you look at my future, tell everything, name, place you see to me. If you can't remember, we will do it again, until you give me all the details."

Soon, the 'Ecliptic Veil' was activated again. Serina goes into the original future of Chernov.

The first image she sees is on a battlefield. The vehicle called 'Shilka' was beside, firing at the enemy position, and Chernov giving his order calmly.

"Flank those Afghanistan!"

Later the image continues to go, this time, was Chernov listening to the broadcasting from the radio.

"Comrades of the Union, this is a special emergency broadcast from Moscow. At approximately 01:23 hours on April 26, a catastrophic accident occurred at Reactor No. 4 of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, located in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic."

"The explosion has resulted in severe structural damage, widespread radiation release, and significant threat to civilian populations across the region."

"In the spirit of Soviet brotherhood and duty, the Central Committee and the Ministry of Defense have issued a direct order: all available military and technical personnel, including units stationed in Afghanistan, are to begin immediate redeployment back to the Soviet Union to assist in containment and rescue efforts."

"This is not just a tragedy, it is a test of our unity, our discipline, and our will."

Without hesitation, Chernov turned off the radio, walked to his supervisor, and applied to join the rescue operation in Chernobyl.

The image has changed again, unlike the last soldier, Serina did not see the image of what exactly happened in Chernobyl.

The time was 1989, how did she know? Chernov was writing a diary now but in somewhere near a bridge.

In front of him, is a group of Red Army that just reached from the other side of the bridge. Near there, are banners that welcome them home. Journalists take pictures of them, cameramen holding cameras for live from different angles.

Apart from that, nothing else. No flowers, no people, no cheer that welcomed them home. Serina can feel Chernov having a sad emotion.

Images in front disappear and are replaced by a squarrel.

"We have our orders. Secure the White House. Detain Boris Nikolayevich Yeltsin and his associates."

But quickly refuted by his men.

"We're not arresting a criminal, Colonel. We're arresting the man half the country now calls their leader. He stood on a tank yesterday and didn't run. People are calling him the voice of freedom."

"Colonel, I've followed you into the mountains of Afghanistan. I'd follow you through hell. But not for this. This feels like putting down the last spark of hope."

"We swore an oath to a motherland, not to a rotting bureaucracy gasping its last breath. The people want a voice, not a Party decree. Yeltsin… he might not be perfect, but he listens. He stands with them."

Seeing that even his men are refusing the order, Chernov sighs and mutters to himself.

"Then it's over. I will do it by myself."

But in the end, he did not succeed, his men controlled him and was imprisoned in one of the rooms.

The image turned again, this time it seemed like he was in his home, sitting in front of a television, watching the live broadcasting. She recognizes this guy, Mikhail Gorbachev.

"Dear compatriots, fellow citizens, men and women of all nationalities of our great country. I address you for the last time as the President of the Soviet Union."

A long pause. He looks slightly down, then back up.

"The fate of this country has taken a new turn. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics no longer exists as a political reality. Today, I am resigning from the post of President of the USSR. The reasons are clear. The emerging Commonwealth of Independent States has now taken shape. I have supported this initiative with all my conviction, believing it reflects the desire of the people and the historical processes unfolding before us."

"I believe in democracy, in freedom of speech, of religion, of human dignity. And I believe that this path, though painful, must be taken for a better future. We have done much. We ended the arms race. We opened up society. But we could not preserve the Union."

Gorbachev seems to continue his speaking, but before that, an alcohol bottle was thrown on the TV, along with Chernov's scream of pain "Bylat! Traitors!". On the table in front of him, is more alcohol bottles.

The image was stopped at this moment, and then another slowly appeared. Chernov was at the white house this time. Many flags were around him this time, but there was one thing in common, people here were angry and disappointed about the current situation, they were protecting something.

Serina looked at each flag carefully. She needed to remember all of them. As long as she could draw them, perhaps Chernov would be able to understand what they meant.

"My holy motherland, perhaps this is the last time I defend you."

Later on, the battle began, tanks started bombing the white house they were located, and infantry started to fire on them. Chernov does not have a good ending, he is hit, bleeding and dies.

The prediction of the future ends and the image gets back to reality.

"How was it? Have you remembered all of it?"

Serina nodded his head and said.

"I remembered all of it, but in the original world, you will die ten years later."

"If I was die protecting my country, then it would be the glorious thing it could be."

"You do die from protecting the country."

"Really? Then who was the enemy, is the enemy flag have a lot of stripes and stars?" Chernov thinks, and believes that it was the war between the USSR and the USA.

"No, it is a long story, never mind, I will draw the flag and maybe you will know it, you fight together with many people that raise different flags."

A moment later, Chernov looks at the flags that Serina, came with a complicated face.

"Russian empire tricolour flag, nationalist flag, monarchist flag, and what the hell are these two? How does this look like a combination of nazi and communist? And this, is this a nazi from another nation?"

"So let me guess, I am fighting together with this flag against others?" Chernov points to the National-Bolsheviks flag, after all, this is the flag that fits most with communism.

However, Serina shakes her head.

"No, you are not only fighting with this but also these, against the tricolour flag." She pointed at the other three.

This time Chernov feels like his brain is not functioning. Just like many years of education was not real. Communism is working with nationalists, monarchists, and Nazis, aren't these ideology are contradict to each other?

There must be something wrong, something very wrong that makes these ideologies united together.

"What else have you seen?"

Serina starts to talk about whatever she has seen to Chernov.

Moments later, Chernov looks at the names he has written down, with a voice trembling with anger.

"All must die!"
