Chapter 18 - Heroine

[#] Just a headsup, Ko-fi subscribers have access to 5 chapters ahead, plans start at 1 buck.

[#] Thanks to Fernweh aber_Bucher's comment, at the end of the chapter there will be Jason list of 'Achievements'

[#] I was relieved to see that OC mamono species are not a taboo among MGE fans. People are waiting in anticipation for witch the 4 OG mamonos I created is the 'real one'. People who subscribe to my Ko-Fi already know who it is, and Jason has already done it... twice.

[#] Shout out to MuchCod1414 [questionablequesting], For being the first and only comment noticing the reference to Batman Dark Knight [Comic].

COMMENTS:

pg475[archiveofourown]:

I'm surprised his class his still hero after all he has been through.

Avip:

This is due to the mechanics of this world.

A "hero" is not necessarily a good person, he is just a warrior blessed by the order of the Chief God.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong in the comments, but a hero could be a torturing killer, he keep his title and powers as long as the Chief God was approving of his "work". I think killing baby mamonos of non-violent races would be an 'ok' thing for her.

bootyburner69[archiveofourown]:

Now i look stupid, I like how i always say or ask something and then the author slaps me in the face with the answers

Avip:

While I appreciate all Lore comments, I assure you that I do not 'slap' on purpose.

Unlike Isekai fics in a world that the protagonist knows, Jason knows little about the world of MGE, he was more interested in the... 'pictures' when he read the book in his other life.

Fernweh_aber_Bucher[questionablequesting]:

I apologise if I missed it but I never saw the bonuses for the Cursed Sword come up, do as an idea maybe you could have a chapter ir little segment with the bonuses from each species come up every 3-4 new monsters he lays with so people don't have to go scrowling back to look for them but at the same time doesnt just pop up again and again, apart from that I am loving this, the plot awesome and I love the pace it's progressing at please keep up the good work.

Avip:

First of all, thank you for your kind words.

Second, I don't put as much information in the story anymore because some readers complained that the text was too cluttered, so there's less stuff now.

Third, I'm only going to put bonuses and system warnings to make the context of power and danger clear.

Fourth, I'll put an updated list at the end of the chapter whenever I get a comment like yours asking for it, and it's really been a while since I put an updated version.

[Valthora Stonebreaker]

As we enter the city, I notice the heavy atmosphere.

The sound of my steps echoes through the empty streets. The air is dense, charged with a feeling I can't identify. People move slowly, their eyes vacant and dull. Children are thin and malnourished, they play without enthusiasm, their laughter weak and forced. The smell of food is scarce, replaced by an odor of despair, fear, and urine.

Captain Cappadocia marches beside me, his white armor gleaming under the weak sun. His face, always rigid, now carries a fierce determination. He casts a stern look at me, but his eyes soften for a brief moment.

"Keep your head held high, Stonebreaker." The Captain says, his voice is firm, a clear command. "These people need to know that the Order is here to help them, not to join this festival of depression."

I take a deep breath and adjust my posture. My shoulders align, my chin lifts. The weight of responsibility settles upon me, but also a sense of purpose.

"Yes, Captain!" I reply, looking forward.

Cappadocia nods, a slight smile of approval on his lips.

We continue to march, our steps synchronized, echoing through the silent streets.

The misery of this city unsettles me the more I see it . My old village was poor, but nobody was suffering like these people. It's not just the lack of food or the despair in people's eyes. There's something more, something dark and sinister lingering in the air.

I glance at the Captain, his expression serious and focused. He seems to feel my gaze as he turns to me, one eyebrow raised in curiosity.

"Captain, all this..." I begin, my voice low, almost a whisper. "Is it because of the mamonos? Are they exploiting the city in some way?"

Cappadocia stops, his eyes scanning the area before answering.

"Monsters are not known for depriving cities of resources or exploiting them on this large scale at least." The captain states in a stern tone. "They have their own methods, their own objectives. If this city has become like this, it must be just a consequence they did not foresee, or…"

The captain pauses, looking around once more, only to sigh irritably answering me.

"Or something else." The captain murmurs in my direction.

"Like what?" I ask curiously.

"That's the dangerous part, soldier." The Captain says, resuming his walk. "I haven't the slightest idea."

After a few seconds we go to the entrance of the city once again, Cappadocia stops again, this time his gaze is softer, but still determined. He turns to me, his eyes meeting mine with an intensity that makes me swallow hard.

"Heroine Valthora," he begins, his voice deep and serious. "This mission is not just another task for the Order. It is your final trial."

My heart quickens, a mixture of anxiety and excitement. Final trial? What does that mean?

"If you manage to purge the evil from this city, if you manage to restore hope and peace here, you will leave behind your rank of cadet hero of the Order, becoming a full-fledged Heroine."

Heroine of the Order… the words echo in my mind, laden with meaning and responsibility.

A heroine of the Order is more than just a soldier; she is a symbol, a champion for humanity. She is someone who fights not only with strength, but with courage, determination, and, above all, faith.

"I…" My voice fails, emotion threatening to overwhelm me. "I don't know if I'm ready, Captain."

Cappadocia takes a step forward, his hand landing on my shoulder. His touch is firm, comforting.

"Valthora, you have already proven your worth countless times. Your courage, your determination, your unwavering faith in our cause. You are more than ready. You were born for this."

His eyes gleam with a conviction that fills me with confidence. He believes in me. And if he believes, then I must believe too.

"Yes, Captain." I reply, my voice firm, resolute. "I will not disappoint you."

He nods, a smile of pride on his lips.

"I know you won't. Now, you should go, you have a city to save."

[Jason]

With the orcs' leader defeated, half the horde submitted to me, and the other half is reluctant to keep following Berkshire's orders.

Right now, I am surrounded by my new horde, awaiting my orders, their breaths heavy and gazes hungry.

"Where are the human prisoners?" I ask seriously, my tone heavy, making the urgency clear to the orcs.

A giggling orc with a deep scar on her face takes a step forward. Her gaze is direct, unwavering.

"The women are on the farms, working as always. We don't bother them if they keep working hard." Her voice is hoarse, but there is a note of pride. "The men, on the other hand…"

She pauses, a cruel smile forming on her lips.

"They are in the stables." Her tone is almost defiant, as if expecting a reaction from me. "Some of the girls have a habit of using them."

The other orcs around murmur, some laughing softly, others with expressions of pure desire. The tension in the air is palpable, a mixture of excitement and anticipation.

"Take me to them." My voice is firm, with no room for discussion. "Now!"

They nod in response, a gleam of respect in her eyes. She turns and begins to walk, the other orcs moving aside to make way.

We quickly reach a large stable near the village's only tavern. The construction was quite large compared to the village as a whole, but this stable needed to be big to accommodate the travelers and merchants who occasionally came with their large carts.

I enter the stable alone, and my eyes widen in astonishment, and my stomach churns with disgust.

The smell is unbearable, a mixture of sweat, urine, and something else, something primitive and wild. The men are trapped in the horse stalls, blindfolded and tied by their arms. Although they are not anemic, the expression on their faces is of pure desolation.

I walk slowly, analyzing the horror show until I stop at a stall upon recognizing the man trapped inside.

"F-Father?" I stammer, feeling a pang in my chest.

I approach the stall where my isekai father is held. My hands tremble slightly as I untie the blindfold covering his eyes. The fabric falls, revealing a vacant gaze, devoid of any emotion. Something inside him is broken, I realize immediately. His eyes, once full of life are now opaque, as if an essential part of his soul has been torn away.

"It's me... Jason." My voice comes out low, almost a whisper.

But he doesn't react, his gaze remains fixed on a distant point, as if he doesn't recognize me.

Trying to find something in his lost gaze, I notice that the color of his eyes is turning purple, similar to my power when I interact with mamonos or their mana.

The realization hits me like a punch to the stomach. He is already close to becoming an incubus, just like Tyss wanted to do to me.

Is he at the point of no return in the transformation? Does that mean he will never be able to love my mother again?

"Too late…" I murmur desperately.

The pain weighs on my chest, an unbearable tightness that suffocates me. I want to cry, embraced by my father, to apologize for being an incompetent and selfish son.

I feel the sadness growing inside me, an overwhelming wave that threatens to swallow me.

But I can't let that happen. I can't allow myself to break down.

Not here, at least not now.

The orcs are watching, waiting for any sign of vulnerability. If I show weakness, everything could crumble.

So I channel the sadness inside me into something else.

Something hot and boiling. The pain mixes with anger, and anger turns into fury.

My fists clench, my nails digging into the palm of my hand. The physical pain is a relief compared to the emotional pain I am feeling. The fury grows, fueled by my sadness and despair.

I give up trying to contain everything inside me and explode, roaring.

"BERKSHIRE!"

Without me realizing it, my body trembles, fury pulsing in every fiber of my being as two auras emerge around me. One is a purple similar to my other powers, while the other is a dark green, something I have never seen before. These auras seem to compete, trying to completely cover my body, as if fighting for dominance.

I leave the stable with firm steps, each movement charged with determination. My eyes fixed on Berkshire, the High Orc who now stares at me with fear. The aura around me pulses, a combination of fury and power that makes the air around us crackle with tension.

"Berkshire!" I spit out, each syllable laden with fury and scorn for the mamono before me. "What gave you the right to treat the men of this village this way?"

She swallows hard, her yellow eyes blinking rapidly. The confidence she previously exuded is now replaced by a palpable fear.

"I-I needed to reward my warriors for the victory." Her voice trembles slightly, but she maintains her firm gaze. "It is our custom. After a battle, the warriors deserve their prize."

I grab Berkshire by the neck, my fingers sinking into her thick skin. Fury burns in my eyes as I face the High Orc, pulling her, bending her body to look me closely in the eyes.

"Prize?" My voice is a growl, each word laden with scorn. "Then, as the victor, I can do whatever I want with you?"

Her eyes widened in shock and fear. She tries to break free, but my grip is as firm as iron. Her breathing quickens, panic taking over her face.

"No, please!" Her voice is a desperate whisper. "I already have a husband to return to. I cannot betray him. I cannot…"

My hand tightens even more around Berkshire's neck, feeling her accelerated pulse beneath my fingers.

"You speak of fidelity while your warriors rape defenseless men on trash and shit?"

My gaze returns to the stable, where my father and the other men are held, their expressions vacant and desolate.

With a brusque movement, I throw Berkshire to the ground. The impact resounds through the stable, echoing like thunder. My foot presses her head against the ground, the sole of my boot sinking into her face. She struggles, trying to break free, but my grip is relentless.

"Please, no!" Berkshire begs, her voice soaked with despair. "Forgive me! I swear, never again-"

My hands grab her barbaric clothes, tearing them with a fury I cannot control. The fabric gives way under my fingers, revealing the High Orc's tanned and muscular skin.

"You are being hasty, my Lord!" Artoria's voice resonates behind me. "Don't let anger guide you."

"You are not like this, Jason." Kyss tries to intervene, her voice trembling and tearful. "She is already defeated, you don't need this."

But the voice that truly catches my attention is Lindana's. She claps her hands, a loud and sharp sound that echoes through the stable.

"That's right, darling darling!" Lindana shouts, her red eyes gleaming with a perverse excitement. "Stomp harder, show her who's boss here!"

But before I could continue, the green aura around my body intensified, overlapping the purple. Enveloping me, the green energy consumes my body completely, only for me to disappear soon after.

[Zyss]

Desperate, I ran to the spot where Jason was shining, but... he is no longer there. My heart clenches, tears stream down my face. Where did he go? What happened? My mind races, trying to understand, but all I feel is a painful emptiness.

"Jason..." I whisper, my voice choking with sobs.

Artoria approaches, her steps firm, but her face, always so serious, now carries an expression of concern. She envelops me in a tight hug, trying to calm me down. Her armored body is cold, but comforting.

"Calm down, Zyss." she says, her voice firm but gentle. "We'll find him."

My body trembles, but I try to control myself. I need to be strong, for Jason, for us. I take a deep breath, trying to compose myself, when...

Berkshire, the High Orc, rises with a fierce roar. Her yellow eyes gleam with a renewed fury. She advances, her heavy steps making the ground tremble. She charges towards us, taking advantage of our moment of weakness.

"Careful, Artoria!" I shout.

Artoria reacts instantly, stranding ready to block the attack with her arms crossed high.

THUNK!

"Ugh!" Berkshire grunts, surprised for the living armor resilience.

But before the high orc can counter-attack, a shadow cuts through the air. A red and black glow of a precise cut.

SLASH!

Berkshire's right arm falls to the ground with a dull thud. Blood spurts, making the High Orc stagger backward.

Lindana appears beside me, her smile mad but confident. She holds the Cursed Sword firmly, the blade still dripping blood.

"Your repulsive smell is giving me a headache, so get your sows out of the city now." Lindana orders, cold as ice. "Or I'll have to do the plan that darling didn't want."

Berkshire clenches her teeth, sweat running down her forehead. With a grunt, she tears a piece of her clothing and wraps it tightly around the bloody stump. The fabric quickly soaks red, but she doesn't waver. Her yellow eyes gleam with a fierce determination.

"Horde! Retreat!" Her voice echoes, powerful and authoritative. The orcs, until then in a frenzy, stop abruptly. They look at their leader, confused but obedient.

The orcs begin to move, slowly at first, but gaining speed as Berkshire's command settles in. They carry the wounded, help the weaker ones. The horde, once a chaotic mass, now moves with military precision.

"Thanks Lindana, but why did you stop her?" Artoria asked. "My lord was ready to rape her, something you applauded." Lindana slowly turned towards us with a big smile. "Don't get me wrong," the Cursed Sword said in a joyful tone. "I would love to see Darling embrace this more authentic side of him, but... deep down Darling is a good person. If he had actually committed such acts he would suffer for a long time... something I don't want to see."

After speaking her reasons, Lindona looks at me with disgust.

"You are pathetic." Lindana growls in my direction.

My eyes widened in surprise at the cursed sword's comment.

"I don't care about the humans in this village, but for darling, I focused on finishing the job we started. And you... you fell to the ground, crying like a baby who lost its mother."

Her words hit me like a punch to the stomach. My body trembles, but I try to control myself.

Beside me, Artoria rises, positioning herself between me and Lindana, ready to defend me.

"Artoria, it's okay." My voice comes out firm, surprising even myself. "Lindana is right. We can't break down now. Jason went through so much to save this village and everyone in it."

Artoria looks at me, surprised, but then nods, taking a step back. Her face, always so serious, now carries an expression of determination.

"You are right, Zyss." she says, her voice firm. "We will honor my Lord's effort."

Lindana watches us, her mad smile creeps back on her face. She spins the Cursed Sword in her hand, the blood dripping onto the ground.

"Finally, someone with common sense." She says, her voice full of sarcasm. "But what are we going to do now?"

I look around, the village is in chaos. Destroyed houses and injured people.

"We need to rebuild." I say, my voice firm, despite the fear that still grips my chest. "And see if the humans still have food."

Lindana looks at me, her mad smile widening even more. She spins the Cursed Sword in her hand, the blood dripping onto the ground.

"Sounds like a good start to a plan, but there's one thing you forgot." She says, her voice full of sarcasm.

I frown, confused. What could I have forgotten?

"What?"

Lindana points to a group of Orcs who stayed behind and were looking at us curiously.

"The more than twenty orcs who now follow Darling." She says, her voice firm.

Artoria sighs tiredly, but makes a suggestion:

"We're going to need manpower, aren't we?"

[Belethra]

"How can the signal have disappeared!" I shout desperately at the blue gremlin in front of me.

Thongle Gearwhiz covers her ears at my scream.

"You don't need to shout so loud, you crazy loli bitch." Thongle complains. "Sit your butt down and I'll explain."

I feel the heat rise to my face.

"Sorry, Miss Gearwhiz." My voice comes out low, almost a whisper.

Thongle glances at me sideways but says nothing. She just points to a chair nearby. I sit down, trying to compose myself. She settles at the control panel, her fingers dancing over the buttons.

In a few seconds, an image projects into the air, flickering before stabilizing.

"See this?" Thongle points to the projection of a gray flame pulsing as if it were a heart. "This is the human's signal. It was strong and clear until a few hours ago, but now..."

The projection of the flame begins to tremble, like a lit candle in a strong wind until it disappears.

My heart clenches, and I leap towards Thongle, grabbing her by the shoulders.

"Is he dead?!" My voice comes out trembling, desperate.

Thongle stares at me, her eyes firm.

"No!" the gremlin replies confidently. "If he had died, the signal would weaken until it went out, not tremble the way you saw it."

I release a relieved sigh, but worry still consumes me.

"Then what happened?"

Thongle returns to fiddling with the controls, her brow furrowed in concentration.

"How could I know? It could be anything."

Grabbing her again, I shake her forcefully.

"What do you mean, you don't know?! Aren't you the technology expert, you blue hussy!"

Thongle rolls her eyes, clearly irritated.

"If I don't know, I don't fucking know!" the Gremlin exclaims angrily. "But if you let go of me, I'll share what I 'think' might have happened."

I release Thongle quickly, my eyes wide with concern. She adjusts her clothes, clearly irritated, but continues:

"Someone or something interfered with his system. It's not a technical problem with his powers, it's something external."

My heart pounds anxiously.

"But only a God or a Lilim could do that." I say softly, almost whispering. "Or maybe … a Baphomet."
