Shawn POV:
I grabbed a nearby wounded man, slinging him over my shoulder as I sidestepped a bullet that would have no doubt taken him out. Without looking back, I sprint towards the base camp. I had no time to waste, as there were many more much like the wounded man.
Placing him in the tent to be treated, I immediately face the massive wall in front of us. In the distance, the sounds of battle continued, even as the night had progressed. I shook my head at the tactical blunder on our side.
We had received massive amounts of reinforcements to help with this final obstacle of omnic opposition. Our objective was clear and simple. Destroy a part of the wall and invade into enemy occupied territory.
To assist, we had over half a million troops along with five newly designed assault stratocopters and tanks. It should be a simple matter to complete our objective . However, there were several factors that were taking too long for people to figure out, prolonging this fight unnecessarily.
First, with so many reinforcements, came numerous members in leadership. Apparently, it was clear who was in charge, so the comms was a mess of many people who were stepping up, desperate to take the lead in this battle that would no doubt lead to their promotion. It was a classic too many chefs and not enough cooks in the kitchen situation. `
Second, the sheer thickness of the wall was grossly underestimated. Visual displays of the wall were sent from the assault stratocopters, which revealed that the density of the walls were at least 30 meters. This wasn't for only our area of attack but estimated for all along the wall as well.
Third, we were encountering heavy omnic retaliation. Within minutes of receiving reinforcements, the omnics revealed that they definitely knew of our location and positioned themselves accordingly on the wall. Lines of Bastions in turret form where raining bullets down on our troops like shooting fish in a barrel. If things didn't change, we certainly would get wiped here.
I spot S3bastian, who had just placed his guy next to the medical tent. In the distance, I could hear the cries of numerous men throughout the battlefield. I grab him, keeping him from running off as I know that he wouldn't have heard me in this chaos if I called out to him.
"That wall, I want it not there." I tell him.
"Same. But I would if I could, but I can't so I won't." He responds, shrugging his shoulders.
"What's stopping you?" I ask.
"As the Sergeant's mom would say, its too thick. I would run out of juice before I would successfully punch through. But if I had a different power source..." He trails off, elbowing me.
I roll my eyes, but understand what needs to be done. I click my receiver in my ear, turning back on the chorus of voices screaming over each on the comms.
"Break." I say into it, but my words get lost
S3bastian scoffs, "You didn't hit puberty yet, so you lack the credentials to successfully do that."
"Clear the comms for me." I ask ignoring him. I actually don't know why I bothered doing that.
S3bastian pauses for a moment, as his eyes dim for a second. On the radio, I could hear everyone collectively stop at once. The lights return to his eyes as he gives me the thumbs up.
"Attention all units, this is Medical Specialist Rose. Be advised, Rose and Metal Deity are going to punch a hole in the wall. Be prepared to back them up. Out."
I can't help but smile as the first thing I hear as the comms return to normal is, "Who the fuck was that?" Followed by everyone now collectively turn against me. Its fine though. They had their chance but since no one could get the job done, it falls to me. I really need to return home and no one was going to stop me.
We take to rushing to the front, despite any who try to stop us. Over the radio a familiar voice rings out.
"Unit Emancipation, proceed towards the wall and back up Rose." The second Lieutenants' voice rings out clearly on the radio.
I can feel various members make their way towards the wall. Others knew something was about to go down and began to take action without their superiors command. Everyone knew going in that this was the battle that would determine who would go down in history. The excitement for glory was too enticing for someone to pass up.
Ignoring the bullets hurtling towards us, we easily make it to the frontline. Men scamper back, letting us stand alone amidst the adversary. S3bastian takes the lead, standing imposingly in front of me.
"I call dibs on naming this move." He says as he holds his hands out in front of him.
"Be my guest." I respond.
With no other targets, the Bastions line up in front of us, transfiguring into turret mode. Sparks of red jolt from S3bastians arms as a faint humming can be heard resounding from him. The Bastions open fire and I take my stance, placing S3bastian behind me.
Pulling out my blade, I begin to deflect any bullets that would threaten to interrupt S3bastian. I would only need to stall for a minute or two. Luckily, their spread was too wide to be accurate enough to warrant any further response from me.
Behind me, I could the men amazed at me deflecting. S3bastian's humming grew louder as the ground around him began to shake as his arms transformed into two cannons. They interlock with each other as he raises them to the wall.
"If you'd be so kind to give me a boost."
I begin to step back, but as I do, I realize that the turret Bastion's aim begins to improve. Augh, did they just now compensate for their spread and focus more fire on me? I stopped backing up and stood my ground against their pressure. I had less than a minute before S3bastian lost all his built-up power. Best case scenario, the energy would dissolve, and we could try again. Worst case, we successfully blow up the wall. Along with all our troops.
As my mind was thinking of a way out of this situation, a voice rings out a good distance behind me. "Fire!" Six rockets take off into the wall, striking the spot under them, causing them to fall with the rubble of what was once their footing. I turn to find the Second Lieutenant giving me a thumbs up.
With a new opportunity given to me, I fall back, placing my hand on S3bastian's back. It only takes a second for me to focus on the insane power that he was generating at the moment. Only a second more, and I provide him the power that he's lacking.
His eyes glow red in response as he begins to laugh manically. "AHAHAHA! Behold and fear me humans. Behold your savior!"
The surrounding air darkens as he absorbs the very light from the area around him, adding it to his own. Plasma seeps from his elbows, crackling and fizzing as it hit the ground.
Raising his cannon, S3bastian shouts, " ULTRA SUPER HYPER GIGA DELUXE..." Before he can finish, a red and black beam shoots out of his cannon, knocking both of us off our feet. The beam slams into the wall with a thunderous boom. It pauses for the briefest of seconds before it continues on. Standing up, I reach out and help S3bastian up, who twitches before stabilizing.
As the beam dissipates, the light returns revealing a massive hole in the wall it a trail of dirt where the beam traveled on the ground.
"Yeah, you're not naming anything else, bud."
