Chapter 7 - Interlude One: The void consumes

(May 13, around 00:00 hours)

Aether couldn't keep his leg still after hearing her sentence. He had already had enough of kicking the metal door until he hurt his toes to be let out, however for obvious reasons the guards weren't going to let him step out of the room until it was 12 o'clock. .

Everything had gone to hell: his plans, the weather, his life, EVERYTHING. He cursed everything he couldn't curse since he arrived at that place, he couldn't understand what criteria they used to determine that this was what had to be done. It was more than clear that there was something strange, that it was most likely a pretrial detention to demand more evidence. But no, just a lockdown and life in prison? It was a joke to him, and to top it off he couldn't stop looking at the clock that was in the front hallway that revealed the window in the door. There were only 10 minutes left for his fall, and he only had a couple of glances from the guards who were looking at him as if he were an exotic beast.

"Why are you looking at me like that!?" Aether exclaimed to them. "Shit! You would be the same as me if you were in my place!"

The guards looked at each other, murmuring. Aether always watched them gossip so when he got bored, he practiced his lip reading.

"And he seemed so calm from the beginning" he managed to read from the guards.

"Stop making fun of me!" he exclaimed and kicked the door down again. "Corrupted shit! You know what they did! They ruined my life! My whole life!"

The guards suddenly entered the room, so Aether wasn't afraid to pounce on one of them. But he was quickly subdued and groped by the guards.

"Stay away! Get your hands off me!"

The guards picked him up and guided him contained in magnetic handcuffs that made it impossible for him to fight, however Aether resisted by crashing into the walls and falling to the ground while screaming throughout as they led him down a long, dimly lit hallway.

"No! They must believe me! I never killed her, you killed her!" Aether didn't stop fighting, until he again received the invasive flashes of cameras that were looking at him. He suddenly noticed that the setting was completely different. He was in an open place, with sandy soil and a cold wind blowing against his face, a sensation that he had not been able to enjoy for a long time. The problem was that in front of him, there was a gloomy hole in the ground. The place where the guilty mourn their crimes until the end of their days.

"No, let me go. I'm innocent!"

While struggling, in the distance he managed to notice Lumine being held in the middle of a hug by Jean, who was crying inconsolably making her heart as heavy as a ton. Without realizing that the guards were making him advance and he was being recorded by different television channels as it was one of the most controversial cases of recent times.

Finally, he managed to push one of the guards free and run in the opposite direction. However, his body fell like dead weight against the sand after feeling an electric shock through his body.

"It can't be" he murmured without being able to move a muscle after the discharge.

The men carried his body as if it were a sack of potatoes, and then threw it into the void of the hole. That it was not only consuming him, but being unable to move even by reflex, he couldn't even put his hands before him to avoid hitting his head as soon as he reached the bottom of the void.
