Chapter 239 - The Mysterious Island

The night sky above the Sevii Islands shimmered with the waves of light that were the aurora borealis, as they did every night ever since humans first colonized these islands. Unlike every other night though, a solitary figure could be seen flying through the air if any of the residents of the islands dared to look upwards.

"..."

Mewtwo was silent as he flew through the air, his mind alternating between recalling the last couple days, and his search for the source of the strange presence he was sensing.

Over the last couple days Mewtwo, alongside Ace Ketchum's Charizard, Infernape, Blastoise, Sceptile, and Torterra, had been learning the moves Blast Burn, Hydro Cannon and Frenzy Plant. Even HE had found the old lady's face amusing when she witnessed him using the moves for the first time as well, as none but THOSE specific pokemon were supposed to be able to learn them.

At night though, Mewtwo was searching every single inch of the Sevii Islands, like he was right now. Curiously though, he had discovered nothing that might point to the source of the mysterious presence he was feeling.

Mewtwo had scourced every single island making up the chain, One through Seven along with everything else in between. Yet, he had discovered nothing that pointed to what he was feeling, even now.

"What could it be...?" Mewtwo mused out loud as he swept around the southernmost Six Island. As he did so, his gaze swept over another island nearby that was shrouded in mists.

"!!!"

"What?" Mewtwo uttered as he turned his attention towards the island, one that he had missed during every other pass he had made in the last couple of days.

"How had I missed this?" He asked out loud, not expecting an answer while his mind raced.

Now that he focused on it, Mewtwo could sense that there was a strong psychic array over the island that prevented others from both seeing and visiting it. This immediately put Mewtwo on the alert, as the only thing he knew of so far that could fool his senses was Mew.

"This bears the need for an investigation." Mewtwo stated, before immediately turning around.

Ace Ketchum had invaluable insight into numerous things in this world, so Mewtwo decided that he would go and get him to investigate this island as well.

The Legendary pokemon promptly flew back to Two Island, moving so quickly through the night sky that he was little more than a streak of light that rapidly faded.

"HMMMMMMMMMM!"

The air vibrated with my irritation as my opponent rended my body with it's claws, only for the damage to instantly repair itself as my body molded itself like clay.

At the same time, I controlled my tendril to take the shape of a fist while also shifting forms to the one that increased my strength most of all.

*BOOM!*

"RAAAAAAAAAA!"

My opponent roared it's anger as I made it reel across the atmosphere, before it's tail began to glow with draconic power as it swung at me violently.

I changed my formed yet again instead of dodging the attack, my body becoming bulkier while I crossed my tendrils in front of my body in defense.

*CRASH!*

"!!!"

The tail hit me harder than I had expected, smashing my reinforced tendrils before striking my core directly, causing numerous cracks to form in it.

*CRRR!*

"!!!"

Alarm filled me as the cracks in my core spread, which began to radiate my full power without filter.

"RAAAAAAAAAA!"

Again, my opponent roared as it charged at me with impossible speed, grabbing me with it's claws to prevent my escape while it amassed power in it's maw, oblivious to the danger it was in at this close proximity.

"RAAA!" It roared while unleashing a blast of energy so powerful, it would have wiped an entire region out of existance in an instant. Right as my core exploded.

*KABOOOOOOOOOOM!*

Cosmic energy flooded the skies as my core shattered, creating an even larger explosion as it interrupted my opponent's Hyper Beam.

The force of impact sent the shards of my core flying as they scattered across the planet, four in total, while my opponent was similarly sent flying towards the mass of ice in the northern hemisphere.

With my consciousness ripped into four with my core, I found myself falling to the planet before crashing onto a small island in the middle of the ocean, with several other slightly larger islands to the north of me.

Too weak to even move, let alone reform my body with only a quarter of my core, I had no choice but to rest and recouperate my energy.

One year...

Ten....

A hundred...

A thousand....

Ten thousand...

A hundred thousand...

I lost track of time as I absorbed the cosmic energy that radiated to this planet from it's sun, as well as from deeper into space.

Eventually, my core managed to completely reform, creating a brand new core and a new self. And I knew the same thing had happened with my other three core fragments.

However the image of my opponent prevented me from leaving my little island, as I had nowhere near the strength to defend myself from it if it sensed my presence. Even if my core had reformed, my strength was still only a fragment of what it once was.

I began sending out signals in brief intervals, just enough to try and reach my other cores while hopefully avoiding notice from my adversary.

But then I sensed the arrival of the living organisms that called this planet home, forcing me to set up numerous arrays to prevent discovery by them. After all, what if they alerted my adversary to where I was?

Even after they arrived, I never left my little island. I only continued sending signals night after night, hoping that my other cores would hear them and find me...

"ACE KETCHUM!"

...

"!!!"

I jerked awake all of a sudden from whatever strange dream I had been having, just like the last several nights, only to see something hoving in the air above me, staring down at me intently.

"Fucking hell!" I swore in shock, swinging at the intruder only for them to Teleport out of the way before reappearing a few feet away.

"Acshe?" Joy slurred as she too awoke from my outburst and violent movement, though with none of the alarm and adrenaline that now coursed through my veins.

"Mewtwo?" I uttered when I finally realized who the intruder was, even as he continued hovering above my bed and staring at me.

"Finally, you have woken up." He stated plainly.

"Kinda hard not to when you have someone screaming at you." I stated irritably.

"I tried for several minutes to wake you, but you did not stir." Mewtwo answered.

"Yeah... I've been sleeping pretty heavily the last few days." I told him while crawling out of bed, and finding some clothes to slip on. Whatever he woke me up for, it must have been important. Or, it better be for his sake.

"Ever since arriving to the Sevii Islands?" He asked suddenly.

"I think so, yeah." I answered, wondering what he was getting at.

"I believe I may have discovered the source of your slumber issues." He stated suddenly.

"Really?"

"Indeed. I have discovered an island." He stated with full seriousness.

"Shocker." I deadpanned.

"It is." Mewtwo continued, completely missing the sarcasm in my tone. But what he said next caught my attention.

"This island has an array around it, one shrouding it in mist and preventing others from either noticing it, or approaching it. I myself missed it during my other flyovers of the area for the last several nights, and only noticed it just earlier."

"Hmmm..."

I was now fully awake as I considered what Mewtwo said, as not many could claim to able to fool HIS senses.

"I never heard of a pokemon able to put up an array like that. Anything else?" I asked him.

"Only that it was unlike anything I ever felt. It was as if it was not of this world." Mewtwo answered.

"Not of this world...?" I repeated, my mind racing as I tried to figure out which pokemon might fit the bill. The problem was that there was so little that I actually new about this world, specifically from the later games and generations. After all, I had no idea what was Cosmog was, nor about Mega Evolution.

"You wanna go check it out?" I asked him eventually.

"That is why I came back here, to bring you with me before I investigated further." Mewtwo explained with a nod.

"Alright, let me get ready. Think you can go rouse Lucario and the Regi's?" I asked him while standing up.

"Why do we need them?"

"We might not, but better to be safe than sorry. We don't want another situation like with Gengar, do we?"

"..."

Mewtwo was silent as he grimaced, probably from recalling his first and only defeat.

"Very well. Though I am certain we will not need them." He replied, obviously trying to pretend to act tough.

He then Teleported out of my room to go and wake the others, leaving me alone with a still-sleepy Joy.

"Are you going?" Joy asked as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes.

"Of course." I answered, quickly pulling on real clothes while also grabbing my bag.

"I'll try to be back by morning." I said while giving her a quick kiss.

"Don't do anything dangerous!" Joy stated firmly, fully awake now.

"Of course! I'll have Mewtwo, Lucario, Regirock and Regice with me. I think it would be safe to say that I'd be the most protected person in all of Kanto, if not the world." I assured her, before leaving to join the others.

When I stepped outside I was greeted by the four aforementioned pokemon, my partner and three Legendaries.

"Ready?" Mewtwo asked as I appeared.

"Of course." I answered, recalling both Regi's into their pokeballs.

"Then let us be off." Mewtwo said, as he enveloped Lucario and I in psychic energy before taking off, taking us with him.

"You know what's going on?" I asked Lucario as we flew.

"He already briefed me." Lucario answered, his body tense and his gaze never leaving Mewtwo.

We quickly arrived at the island Mewtwo told me about, one that was shrouded in mists that I would have completely missed had he not brought me right to it. But..... There was something else about this place...

"I've been here before..." I uttered as Mewtwo set us down on the island.

"You have?!" Mewtwo asked me in alarm while I looked around at the island, the grass and trees that surrounded us while a steady hum filled the air.

"I think so..." I muttered, before I immediately headed towards the interior.

"Partner?"

"Ace Ketchum?"

Both Lucario and Mewtwo called out to me, but I ignored them as I headed inwards, before arriving at a small clearing that I recognized, along with a pedestal that held a glowing stone. One that seemed identical to the auroras that illuminated the night sky, while the humming noise was almost deafening by now.

"Wait a second..." I uttered as everything suddenly came back to me, all of the dreams I had been having every since we arrived to the Sevii Islands. And at that moment...

"HMMMMMMMMMMM!"

The stone on the pedestal began to vibrate wildly as Mewtwo and Lucario joined me, before a red and blue body began to form around it that hovered in the air above the pedestal.

"Deoxys..."
